Distance education, online live lesson, pandemic, size TV, restrictions…
These are the words that we all hear the most these days. One of the measures taken within the scope of the epidemic measures was to suspend face-to-face education and switch to distance (online) education. This means that our children will continue to stay in front of the screen for long hours. So, what is the impact of screen time, which can reach 7-8 hours a day, even for study purposes, on our children?
As a result of many studies, appropriate daily screen times have been reported according to age groups. Accordingly, keeping our developmental children in front of a screen for more than 4 hours a day, even for lessons, means negatively affecting them in many aspects such as attention, focus, socialization and communication skills, and physical development.
So, what can parents do about this? ?
-In order for the distance (online) education process to be efficient and healthy, parents must first be good technology users. So, if you are unfamiliar with the internet, the applications and technological devices used, you cannot control your child and take precautions against the dangers he will encounter in the virtual environment. -It is very important to determine a daily home routine. In order for our children to adapt to this process more easily, you must first have a daily plan and program that you determine together as a family. Your children need to know what time they will go to bed and wake up, when they will attend live classes, what they will do between and after classes, and when they will eat. Because
children feel safer and more comfortable in planned and programmed environments.
-After waking up in the morning, we should ensure that our children have a good breakfast, take off their pajamas and put on their daily clothes, warn them to prepare their own notebooks and books, in short, they will get ready to go to school. We should experience the process of preparing for live lessons such as. These practices are very important for them to get rid of the comfort and disorder of the home environment, develop their awareness of responsibility and benefit from the distance education process in the best sense.
-They are confident because they already attend live classes. We should offer alternatives to our children who are in front of the screen for a long time, so that they do not spend time with computer games or phones after classes, and by applying these alternatives together, we should strengthen our communication and keep them away from the screen. (Box games, sports exercises, walks away from crowds during allowed hours, going into the kitchen with our children to try new recipes, and giving them tasks to do at home may be good alternatives.)
