The discovery of the causes of male infertility and the successful application of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in assisted reproduction techniques have revolutionized male infertility. /p>
During clinical research, men should be examined systematically
. Evaluation; It includes anamnesis, physical examination and examination of the ejaculate in the laboratory. In a multi-center study conducted worldwide
including 32 clinics, male factor alone appears as the cause of infertility in 30-40% of infertile
couples. 12% of men defined as infertile can achieve pregnancy within 4 years
.
In male infertility, the first and basic test is a spermiogram. There is confusion about normal values in the evaluation of semen parameters
.
Hormonal Causes: Sperm production and secretion from the pituitary gland in the brain.
Problems in FSH and LH hormones that affect maturation
Reasons Related to Testicles: Causes related to sperm production disorder (Nonobstructive) and sperm
Causes related to sperm ejaculation disorder (obstructive)
Reasons Related to Sperm-Carrying Channels and Organs: As a result of a blockage in these pathways, the produced sperm cannot reach the ejaculate (semen).
In cases where this system is congenitally blocked, spouses should be screened for the cystic fibrosis gene.
Because children resulting from pregnancies resulting from sperm obtained from the testicles carry such a risk
. Diseases caused by other surgical or medical reasons can benefit from cause-specific treatment options.
LABORATORY EXAMINATIONS
Semen Analysis: To provide a sperm sample, you are asked to apply at least 3 days and at most 5 days after sexual intercourse or ejaculation (sexual abstinence). Soap etc. is used during the semen emission process. Lubricants
should not be used. The penis and fingers should not touch the inner surface of the container provided.
The entire sample given must go into the container. Cannot give samples in laboratory environment
Most patients should report the situation to their doctor or laboratory officer.
For individuals who will give samples outside the laboratory, the sample will be collected in 20 minutes. It must be delivered to the laboratory at body temperature (e.g.
armpit) and without exposure to sunlight.
