Discoloration of Hands in Cold Weather
Raynoud's sign is a condition in which there is a phase of yellowing, bruising and subsequent redness in the hands, especially triggered by cold. It appears quite frequently in society. It is especially common in young women. Every year, during the winter months, many people apply with these complaints in their hands and feet. However, a very small number of these people have another underlying disease. What is important for us is the Raynaud sign accompanied by another disease.
Raynoud sign, in which there is no other underlying disease, usually develops with cold and stress. It often disappears when the weather gets warmer. There are no complaints regarding other organs such as joints and skin. These people are generally in their 20s.
Raynoud's symptom, which is an underlying disease, occurs more after the age of 30. It can occur not only in cold seasons, but also in hot weather, at room temperature. It also has symptoms of whatever disease it accompanies. For example, there may be symptoms such as swelling in the joint, thickening of the skin or rashes. An abnormality may be found in blood tests in almost all of these patients.
When evaluating these patients, we act according to the basic principle of whether there is an underlying disease or not. Examination and blood tests generally help us.
If there is a sign of Raynoud without an underlying disease, we can recommend protection from cold, not smoking, staying away from stress conditions, and in very severe cases, medications that increase blood circulation. If there is a symptom of ray noud accompanying a disease, then we focus on the treatment of the underlying disease.
