How Should You Set Your New Year's Goals?

What should our expectations and plans be for 2021?

We know that we have all had a difficult year. We are leaving another year behind. Maybe we have all thought of different plans and different goals. We had different dreams and plans when we started this year, but we have come to a very different point than we expected. However, although it has been a challenging year full of difficulties, we may have also come to good points that we never expected. Sometimes we can only focus on the negative and forget the moments we experienced last year that left a smile on our faces. I think it should be precious for us to value those moments, too. Whatever the year we have spent, it may have been full of pain, sadness, joy, excitement, confusion and perhaps uncertainty. I think we always have a chance to embrace innovation and compassionately embrace any changes that have happened or may happen in our lives, no matter what.

Life is all about choices, the meaning we give to it and the emotions we create are in our hands, we make this choice. We attribute meaning to it. Human beings are a great example of existence. As long as we exist and breathe, hope should always be in our bag. Now, let's think about it, we embrace a new year, what do we want to happen? What are our goals? How about we list them?

Setting goals as we start a new year should have meaning for us, let's get ready to open a new clean page. It's time to try things we haven't tried before, and perhaps give another chance to the goals we've been preventing ourselves from doing. Life presents us with opportunities and it is up to us to take advantage of them. How about filling that clean page with new hopes? It is important that human beings do not lose control. Embracing forward-looking goals is one of the most important factors that make a person human. We should have dreams that last longer than our lives, it is to give us the opportunity to listen to ourselves and turn inward. Catching the time to be yourself means what can I do and what should I do? What we experienced, what happened It is up to us to shape it and make it beautiful. Writing is good for people. Presenting our intentions, wishes that will make us happy, intending what kind of person we want to be. These are perhaps a way to renew our self-confidence and hope.

In the article I wrote, determining your goals for yourself in the new year is about the importance of setting the right achievable goals. What do we actually need to achieve a goal? I would like to talk about these briefly.

First of all, I often use Montaigne's quote: No wind can help a ship that has no target. Why are goals important? Defined goals affect our perceptions and give subconscious stimulation to our nervous system. I liken defined goals to dreams with legs. It takes us to the conclusion. One of our greatest skills for having a purpose is the power to imagine our future results, how we shape the opportunities we have, and to direct our behaviors to the desired results. What are these things that make us have a goal? When? It offers us how to direct ourselves.

Usually, we say to ourselves that even if I set and define new goals for myself every year, if you say you cannot achieve it, this may be because the goals you have set for yourself so far are not the right defined goals. Maybe if you listen to your inner voice, your goals reflect what is required of you, rather than what you want. It is important to listen to our inner voice and listen to ourselves. For this reason, you may have difficulty directing your behavior. How about giving yourself one more chance and trying to create a list by paying attention to the points I will mention? If you are successfully achieving your new year goals with good results, it may be a priority for you to review the perspective from which you will evaluate these goals.

Wanting, believing

One of the most important factors is thinking about what we want, being able to say that we really want this, defining it, and expressing it should be our priority. What do we want to achieve? What do we want to happen? What kind of people are we and what kind of people are we? Do we want to be human? Think about these, take note of the things you really want in yourself, and put the things that come to your mind at that moment on your paper... When you really think about the answers to these, the answers will fall from your lips.

Offering options

Write down the things that will motivate you the most in the list you prepared and identify them as items. Highlight the things that are real and what you really want to happen in your list as a priority. Eliminate the ones you don't like so that you can create options for yourself.

Taking responsibility

Life does not always offer us everything we want. I wish we could always have everything we want at once. But such a world is not possible right now. So, let's tell ourselves this; The realization of these goals is in my hands. If I don't really strive to achieve these things, they can't come true. Achieving these is possible with my belief. It is possible with my effort. We must make ourselves aware of this. Remember; The responsibilities are in our hands and the effort and effort we put into it. Prioritize the things you will write on your list so that the responsibilities will be yours. If it's not your responsibility, cross it off your list. Review the items. And choose the simplest form for yourself.

To make our goals and plans realistic

Now is the time to review the items you have included in your list. What goals did you set? Are the goals possible to achieve? Are realistic goals defined? Is it reachable? Is it possible to achieve these with your effort and labor? If you have undefined goals that are unattainable, set them so that they are achievable. Should there be clear and understandable goals? Determine your plans by reviewing them. It means adding reality to the goals we set ourselves, such as doing sports and creating healthy eating rituals. It is important to have clear and understandable goals rather than open-ended goals. Goals that cause uncertainty can cause strain. For example; doing more sports, stating that this is 3 times a week, stating that you read this many books a year, enrolling in online courses, meditating 2 or 3 times, creating monthly training calendars for yourself, how much, how often. Like determining... Setting these goals gives you a plan on how you can achieve it. Concrete goals guide us to take action. Give you the opportunity to experience it while writing your list in a way that motivates you to take action.

Motivation

Even while preparing this list for yourself, we may have difficulties in creating motivation, so when creating the list, ask yourself to increase your motivation. You have things to do. As I mentioned at the beginning of the article, I compared defined goals to dreams with legs. Now, at the top of our list, let's close our eyes and think. Imagine that a year later, life offers you what you want and you achieve the goals you defined. What has changed in your life? What kind of situation are you in? Is it the way you want it to be? what do you feel? Remember to write down the positive emotions and thoughts that come to your mind; Negative thoughts create negative emotions. Let's take the positive thoughts, write them down, underline them and identify them. If your motivation decreases during the year, let's review this visualization technique. There may be times when we stumble, but it is in our power to show effort and patience to cultivate hope.
