Hypersexuality (Excessive Sexual Desire)

Excessive sexual desire is the urge to engage in repetitive sexual behavior, sexual fantasies and sexual activities at a level that causes distress to the person or causes social and medical problems. These people have increased sexual fantasies, constant search for relationships, watching pornography uncontrollably, virtual sex. They have excessive sexual pursuits, such as increased masturbation. In this case, sexual desire and activity get out of control, leading to social, psychological, physical and legal problems.

It is not related to any hormonal disorder. In disorders involving the frontal region of the brain, dementia, Excessive sexual activity and behavioral disorders can be seen in Parkinson's disease, mental retardation and epilepsy. Excessive sexual activity can also be seen in psychiatric diseases such as manic depressive illness, alcohol and substance addiction, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and social phobia.

It is more common in men than women. Excessive and out of control sexual desire can cause many undesirable situations such as sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies, legal problems, relationship and marriage problems, and domestic violence. Contrary to popular belief, excessive sexual desire can lead to infertility or sexual function problems. However, if it causes unprotected casual intercourse, it poses the risk of exposure to infectious diseases. Difficulties in controlling sexual desire may cause psychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety disorders.

Psychotherapy and psychiatric medications are effective in its treatment as a result of psychiatric evaluation.
