Epiduroscopy; New anesthesia-free surgery period for herniated disc

What is epiduroscopy?

It is the examination of the outer part of the spinal cord by inserting a catheter into the spine under the coccyx with an endoscope whose tip can move in all directions. It is the observation of the epidural canal. During epiduroscopy, the hernia fragments that protrude, especially in the case of a lumbar hernia, can be removed by burning them with the laser method or mechanically. Additionally, nerve root adhesions can be removed mechanically and steroids and painkillers can be given for edema in the nerve root.

To whom is epiduroscopy applied?

Who has been suffering from low back pain for a long time? It can be applied to patients with canal stenosis and herniated disc who have not benefited from medication and physical therapy. It can also be easily applied to patients who have previously undergone a herniated disc surgery, had adhesions, or had a platinum implanted in the spine, but their pain has not gone away. It can be applied to all ages.

What should patients who have had a herniated disc surgery before do?

Medicated MRI (Magnetic MRI) is performed in patients who have had previous surgery, platinum insertion, but whose pain has not gone away. We are shooting Resonance. If we detect adhesion and narrowing, we perform Epiduroscopy.

Where is the intervention performed?

There is a natural hole under the coccyx. It can be entered easily from here and the process is painless and completed in approximately 10 minutes. It is a method performed awake without general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia. The patient can return home by car after resting in bed for fifteen minutes. We do not stitch our patients for whom we perform epiduroscopy. The next morning, the patient can easily take a bath and return to his life from where he left off.

New surgery period for Lumbar Herniation:

No anesthesia, no stitches, no loss of labor. Epiduroscopy, which is performed without anesthesia and while awake, is the most talked about and preferred method in recent days. It is also preferred because the risk of nerve and vascular injury is very low. I wish eternal recovery to my patients with pain.
