A Scientific View of Love: Triangle Love Theory

It will help you define the relationship you are in,

According to Robert Sternberg's Triangle Theory of Love, the dimensions of LOVE and RELATIONSHIP are;

INTIMACY: It includes the feelings of commitment, being close, and sharing secrets.
PASSION: It includes elements of sexual and romantic attraction.
COMMITMENT: It includes elements such as responsibility, planning and taking initiative, which are necessary to take the relationship to higher levels.

For Sternberg, a perfect relationship means, It depends on it containing all three elements in a balanced manner. However, there are also relationships of different sizes that emerge from very different combinations, depending on personality characteristics and the quality of communication between partners. It can reach seven different combinations of these three components.

The state of not being in loveIt describes the situations in which all three main elements of love are absent. The relationships we have with our friends and family are relationships that do not contain the elements of love.

LIKE: It is love in which emotions that can be perceived as friendship are felt. It includes states of closeness, devotion and warmth towards the partner.

MADLY LOVE: It is the love that is dominated by the hormonal changes and physical attraction you experience when you see your partner for the first time. Romantic relationships usually begin at the level of infatuation, and over time, they begin to shift towards romantic love as commitment, long-term plans, and responsibility come into play. If the feelings of closeness and commitment are not activated, it will end in a very short time.

EMPTY LOVE: It is the type of love that does not contain closeness and passion, only commitment. Strong loves can deteriorate over time and turn into empty love. Planned marriages can turn into empty love over time.

ROMANTIC LOVE: It is a type of love that includes commitment and passion. In addition to being physically attracted to each other, people in romantic relationships also feel emotional closeness to each other. The element of closeness is missing in this relationship.

FRIENDLY LOVE: These are loves in which there is no passion and there is a high degree of commitment. It is a relationship that is a little more advanced than friendship due to the element of commitment.

STUPID LOVE: It has high levels of commitment and passion elements, closeness and It is the type of love where logic does not exist.

PERFECT LOVE: It is the type of love that is most balanced and healthy. It includes the elements of closeness, commitment and passion in a balanced way.

According to Sternberg, couples who have achieved perfect love do not consider the possibility that they may feel happier with someone else, no matter how much time passes since their relationship. The passion, devotion and closeness they feel for each other is always balanced and continuous. Reaching this dimension in a relationship is possible for most people, but the important thing is to achieve a long-term and permanent relationship at this dimension.

Have a day full of love…
