Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are placed in the jawbone with a minor surgical operation to replace lost teeth in the lower or upper jaw and serve as tooth roots. The raw material of the dental implant is titanium compound and provides biological integrity with the body. Since missing teeth in the mouth lead to bone and tissue loss in the future, the implant also prevents this.
How is an Implant Applied?
Dental implant surgery, which is used to give teeth an aesthetic and natural appearance as well as functions such as comfortable chewing and biting, is performed under local anesthesia. The patient does not feel pain or ache. The bone structure of the patient for whom an implant is to be applied is first evaluated using imaging techniques. If the patient's bone structure is not suitable for the implant, bone augmentation is performed using bone grafting and the jawbone is made suitable for the implant. Depending on the situation, some waiting may be required for this bone augmentation process. Direct implant surgery can be performed in patients with sufficient bone level. In order to move on to the prosthetic phase after implant surgery, there is a waiting period of approximately 3 to 6 months for the implant to integrate into the jawbone and heal, which may vary depending on the procedure performed on the patient. After implant surgery, the implants placed in the jawbone do not affect the patient's social life, and patients can return to their daily lives on the same day.
After the healing period of the implants in the jawbone is completed, healing caps are placed on the implants to shape the gums. The purpose of these healing caps is to give shape to the gums during the opening of the implants into the oral environment and to ensure that the prosthetic teeth placed on the implants easily adapt to a natural appearance as if they were emerging from the gums. These healing caps are used for approximately 7-10 days. After the healing caps are removed, measurements are taken for the type of prosthesis preferred by the patient and new teeth are prepared. After the entire implant application is completed, the patient can use his natural and healthy teeth as if they were real teeth.
