Pregnancy is the most special period in a woman's life. During this period, along with hormonal changes, various problems may occur in the teeth and gums. If we evaluate dental health during pregnancy separately for 3 periods:

1. Trimester period:  This period is the most sensitive period regarding the development of the baby. With developing technology, it is now 2.3. As pregnancy follow-up begins in the following weeks, expectant mothers are conditioned to complete this process without the risk of miscarriage and to wait for the positive results of the screening tests, and they may neglect themselves. Treatments that are not necessary can be postponed until the 2nd period, but emergency cases such as extractions and root canal treatment should be visited safely by dentists.

2. Trimester period:In this period, organ blueprints have formed and the transformation from embryo to fetus has begun. Dental treatments can be performed safely.

3. Trimester:In this period, there is a little time left until birth. Interventions that will excite the mother should be avoided and urgent treatments should be performed.

X-Ray During Pregnancy
Even though the amount of radiation given in the x-ray techniques used in dentistry is small, a lead apron is applied to the patient to prevent the developing baby from receiving unnecessary radiation. should be dressed. X-rays should be avoided in the first trimester.

Dental  Anesthesia During Pregnancy
Local anesthesia used in dentistry during pregnancy does not have any side effects. When using local anesthesia, the manufacturer's recommendations should be taken into consideration. If there is no warning, there is no harm in using local anesthesia.

Tooth Extraction During Pregnancy  
Since expectant mothers constantly think about their unborn baby during pregnancy, they inevitably take care of their own physical and personal care. They neglect. Especially extreme nausea and vomiting cause changes in the oral flora. Since the amount of acid in the blood and saliva increases, proper oral and dental care is not performed. Bruises are inevitable.

Antibiotic Use During Pregnancy
During this period, the expectant mother should not use any medication without consulting a doctor. During pregnancy, if necessary, antibiotics such as penicillin and its derivatives should be used and tetracycline group antibiotics should be taken. Tetracycline group antibiotics cause discoloration in the baby's teeth. As a pain reliever, it should be used in a controlled manner with an analgesic such as paracetamol. However, as a precaution, it is best not to use any medication during the first 3 months.

Gum Disorders During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a process of hormonal change. This process works differently for everyone and each pregnancy. But in general, if good oral and dental care is not performed, edema, redness and bleeding occur in the gums. These conditions, called pregnancy gingivitis, usually begin in the 2nd month and continue until the end of pregnancy. It may heal after birth. If tartar formation is observed, treatments can be performed not in the first 2 months, but in the following months.
