- So, how does this situation affect the spiritual world of the unemployed?
Unemployment, defined as one of the worst situations that can happen to a person, also damages the mood of the individual. Because a person's ability to meet certain expectations in the environment he lives in is directly proportional to his professional functionality... Psychiatrist Dr. Uğur Hatıloğlu gave information about “unemployment psychology” in these periods when unemployment increases.
- Depressive Disorder Is Most Common
People work to fulfill their most basic needs and major hobbies. Business life not only meets people's basic needs, but also provides them with a social environment and importance. Therefore, the process of searching for a suitable job is often painful. If a person has a family that he is obliged to take care of or help, this brings with it the need for continuity and success in his job. If an adult in this situation does not have a job or has low professional functionality, over time, the obligations and responsibilities of life cannot be fulfilled, and different psychiatric disorders may develop in unemployed individuals, depending on variables such as social support mechanisms, capacity and ways of coping with stress, and personality traits. One of the most common disorders is depressive disorder.
- He may blame himself for incompetence and incompetence
- The person feels depressed or anxious most of the day. He begins to worry about the future and constantly think about how to put his affairs in order. Problems such as sleep and appetite irregularities, attention and memory deficits, anger outbursts and increased destructive behavior may occur. Over time, a loss of desire and interest in life and a decrease in energy may be observed.
The person may accuse himself of extreme incompetence and inadequacy. This situation begins to affect the functionality of the environment and family and causes the patient to become almost completely disabled for at least two weeks. If it occurs every day, it should be evaluated for depressive disorder. Sometimes, the person's anxiety may increase more intensely and they may worry that they will not be able to do even daily activities or that they will do something wrong. Again, in this case, it may be necessary to evaluate for anxiety disorders. While these two situations may seem intertwined, different symptoms and conditions may also be observed in people.
- When the Unemployment Process Prolongs, Symptoms of Hopelessness and Pessimism Emerge
Although the attitude generally adopted by unemployed people is to support them in the first place, unfortunately over time this can turn into complaining and forcing the person. In this process, support should continue to be provided even after situations such as job application rejection or no response to applications. Because people looking for a job can naturally fall into despair and pessimism as time goes by. In this process, negative reactions and being accused of incompetence can reduce the person's motivation and further reduce his chances of finding a job. Because if the mentioned symptoms are present, the person's desire to look for a job will decrease over time, and the person may give up looking for a job and withdraw from life. In other words, while the person wants to find a job, on the other hand, he becomes unable to look for a job due to loss of energy and desire. In such cases, it is best to seek help from a professional when there is a decrease in general functionality and symptoms that were not present in the person before.
