Teeth Help Us Enjoy Food

Teeth are alive, thanks to this vitality, we perceive differences such as hot, cold, hard and soft. Some specialized cells located between the gums and teeth are specialized so that we can enjoy the foods we eat and drink. As a result of tooth extraction, these cells lose their effectiveness. You may have heard patients who use dentures at a later age complain that "these fruits don't have the same taste they used to have." In fact, the fruit is the same sweet, but since there are no teeth, the person cannot enjoy the pleasure of eating it with his own teeth.

People generally think that the main cause of tooth loss is tooth decay. Research has shown that the most common cause of tooth loss in later ages is gum diseases.

Gum diseases cause gums to recede. Thus, healthy teeth that have no decay or even fillings begin to move and shake violently. If they are not treated, they will have to be removed.

The main cause of gum diseases is dental stones. Food residues accumulated between the teeth solidify in the mouth. Within two days, tartar reaches a point where it cannot be cleaned with a toothbrush, dental floss or similar material.

Elimination of tartar is only possible with professional cleaning by dentists. Although this period is generally said to be every six months, it is shorter for people who smoke, do not pay attention to oral hygiene, have a genetic predisposition to gum disease, or have some systemic diseases. However, scaling can be done at wider intervals for people who brush their teeth and use dental floss effectively.

Tooth deficiencies should definitely be treated with prosthesis and implant applications. Otherwise, the number of tooth losses will increase. Today's prosthesis and implant applications have become very close to natural teeth. However, these applications cannot help us regain the feeling of vitality we get with natural teeth. If we do not want to lose the feeling of pleasure we get from food, we must take good care of our teeth.
