''YGS is 3 days away... Even thinking about it gives me goosebumps.'' Do you think so too?
First of all, remember that you are not alone. The majority of those who take the exam are in the same situation as you.
In our country, we have to pass some exams to enter the university. First the exams at school, then YGS, LYS. When we look at it this way, we have actually taken many exams so far. So why are you not afraid of school exams as much as you are afraid of YGS? Aren't they both exams? Or aren't they both exams that you have to pass to enter the university?
The answer will of course be "yes". Then why is there such a difference in the anxiety we feel between YGS and other exams? Are we actually that afraid of the exam itself?
The difference actually lies in the meanings we attach to the exam. In other words, the exam itself is not something that creates fear, but the answer we give to the question "What if I fail?" is fearful. First of all, it is important that we learn to make this distinction. Once you understand this distinction, a few suggestions may be useful. Stay away from events that may upset you and don't think about them before the exam. • It is very important to remember that exam results do not determine your personality. Do not distract yourself with cell phones, computers or television. These make you lose sleep more.
• Don't think about the exam results before the exam.
• Make a fun plan after the exam and think that you will realize that plan when the exam is over.
• It is normal to be anxious about the exam. Know that it is an emotion and do not try to escape from your anxiety. • If you feel your anxiety rising during the exam, take 10-15 seconds for yourself and close your eyes and take deep breaths. Know that 10 percent of the questions in the exam are very easy, 20 percent are easy, 40 percent are normal, 20 percent are difficult, 10 percent are very difficult and these questions are asked in mixed orders. and remember that it is normal to encounter questions that you have difficulty with during the exam.
• Know that feeling like you cannot do anything before the exam is due to your current stress and anxiety, and remember how hard you studied for the exam.
• Starting the exam from the section you are best at will make you have self-confidence. and will reduce your anxiety.
• Looking at the clock too often during the exam may make you worry about time.
Take some time for yourself when you go to bed every night until the exam, close your eyes and do breathing exercises first. Take a slow, deep breath through your nose. Then exhale slowly through your mouth again. Repeat this 3 times. After breathing exercises, move on to muscle exercises. Starting from your hands, slowly squeeze the muscles in your hands to make a fist and then slowly open them again. In this way, spread the movement throughout your body and tighten the muscles in your entire body, then release it again. Finally, think about the exam day in every detail. For example; The alarm rang in the morning and you opened your eyes. You reached your arm towards your phone and stopped the alarm. Then you slowly sat up in bed, turned to your right side, first put your right foot on the floor, then put your left foot in the same way...
Finally, the most important thing you should not forget; Exams are only there to measure your academic status, not to measure you or label you.
