PCOS Questions

One of the most frequently asked questions is the causes of menstrual disorders. Menstrual disorder in young people often occurs in the form of menstruation being rare or absent from normal and is associated with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

-Ovulation disorder / absence of ovulation

p>

- High androgen hormone / increase in male pattern hair growth, acne, hair loss

-Polycystic structure of the ovary detected by ultrasound

(presence of two of these three criteria supports the diagnosis)

The cause of PCOS is still unknown; Many rather than one cause appear to contribute to the disease. The most well-known causes are genetic predisposition and insulin dysfunction associated with obesity.

Problems related to PCOS can be divided into 2 main headings:

  • Hormonal disorder and impairment of reproductive function

  • -increase in androgen (more specific to male character) hormones

    -irregular or absent ovulation

-prolongation of menstrual cycle, absence of menstruation

    -inability to conceive

    -increased miscarriage rate

    2. Metabolism disorders

-increase in insulin resistance, increase in insulin levels

    -tendency to gain weight, obesity

    -diabetes

-increase in lipids in the blood

In case of long-term uncontrolled PCOS disease

-development of cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure

    -uterine (endometrium) cancer may occur.

The most common complaints in PCOS

-menstrual irregularity (menstrual cycle longer than 35 days, sometimes no menstruation)

    - infertility (one of the most important causes of infertility)

The type of treatment varies depending on the patient's complaint, degree of hormonal disorder and general health condition.

Since genetic factors also play a role in PCOS, it is not possible to completely protect from the disease. However, even if there is a genetic predisposition, maintaining weight control and adopting an active lifestyle will help protect from the undesirable and severe consequences of PCOS.

Although PCOS is seen in 7-12% of women under the age of 35, the complaints regress when it is taken under control. It is a condition whose complaints can be treated.

Let's follow the menstrual cycle, make our waist circumference smaller. Let's measure our health and not be afraid of PCOS.
