Due to the pandemic, most of us have been at home for a while and this period may be longer. Therefore, questions such as what should we do with the children and what should we play with them during this period are going around in the minds of most parents. Before moving on to game suggestions, I would like to point out that the most important thing is not how many games we play during the day, or even what we play; I would like to remind you that we play games or spend time by being there physically and mentally. If we are constantly thinking about cleaning, cooking or worrying while playing games, and we are just playing to pass the time, it is necessary to know that children understand this very easily. Even just 30 minutes that we play with our child with our mind is much more valuable than the 3 hours we play when our mind is not there.
So what can we play?
I recommend you choose games where you look into each other's eyes and touch each other. . What could these be?
-
Applying cream to each other: You can apply cream to your child's hands by looking into his eyes frequently. While applying the cream, pay attention to the child's moles, spots and wounds, if any. Like, 'This mole is special for you, only you have it, how small it is...' or 'Let's see your wounds, does it hurt, was it good to apply cream?' Your child can also apply it to you if he/she wishes.
-
Slipper: Your hands will be slippery after applying the cream, you can add cream if necessary. You can sit across from each other and hold hands and guess who will slide first. Do not forget to look eye to eye.
-
You can play Jenga. You can write questions about each other on Jenga boards. (What is your favorite game, where would you like to go most, what is your biggest dream, etc.). Everyone can answer the questions on the boards they draw while playing Jenga.
-
Guess: After sitting across from each other, you can keep an animal or an object in your mind. Your child may try to guess what's on your mind by asking questions. (How many legs does it have, does it have a tail, what is it for, etc.)
-
Pipette Ball: After making small balls from cotton, blow the balls to each other with straws while sitting or lying opposite each other. You can create a goal and try to score a goal, or set a certain time and decide who has the most balls left at the end of that time. You can count the numbers.
-
Completing the story: You can tell a fairy tale or read a book and write the rest together after a certain point. If you want, you can even create a book by drawing pictures.
-
Creating a story from photos: You can create a story about the events you experienced that day by choosing a few of your old photos, this story can also be about the events you actually experienced, It can also be based entirely on imagination.
-
Taboo: If there is a taboo in your home, you can play it, if not, you can create a simpler taboo yourself depending on the age of the child.
-
Word jar: Write as many words as you want on small pieces of paper and mix them. You can pull out a piece of paper one by one and explain the words non-verbally, or you can choose 3-4 words and try to create a story with them.
-
Doing sports or yoga together: Exercise both reduces anxiety and helps you create a story with them. It allows you to have a pleasant time. You can easily find exercises suitable for you on the internet.
