LIPOSUCTION (FAT REMOVAL WITH VACUUM)

Liposuction is an intervention that removes unwanted fat from the body. Fat can be removed from the abdomen, hips, calves, upper arm, chin, cheeks and neck using a vacuum aspirator and special cannulas. Liposuction is an intervention that must be performed by plastic surgeons. In inexperienced hands, undesirable complications may develop and these are extremely difficult to correct. In the past, terms such as "lipoplasty" or "suction lipectomy" were used to describe the technique. First of all, one should try to lose weight naturally with diet and exercise, and if the fat mass in certain areas cannot be melted, liposuction should be performed.

Patients suitable for the technique
First of all, the patient should have realistic expectations. Liposuction can correct body contours and increase one's self-confidence, but it can never create a completely ideal body. Ideal patients for this technique: These are patients with normal body weight, a firm and elastic skin structure, but with excessive fat masses in certain body areas. Although age is not very important, skin elasticity decreases with aging and the indication for liposuction decreases. Recovery after application occurs earlier in young skin. If the skin is thick and elastic, lipectomy (removal of fat and excess skin together) is considered instead of liposuction.

Anesthesia
Liposuction can be performed in small areas. It is performed under local anesthesia (numbing only that area), and in larger and more than one area, it is performed under general anesthesia. There is more than one technique under the name of liposuction. The plastic surgeon selects the appropriate technique for the patient and makes the necessary explanations. The fat obtained during liposuction can be used for fat injection in other body areas of the patient (lips, cheeks, etc.), if necessary.

Scars
In liposuction, the operation scars can only be filled with cannula entry holes (4). -5 mm in length) and a maximum of 2 holes are drilled for each area. These holes are then closed with stitches. Within six months to a year, the scars fade and become indistinct.

After the operation
Immediately after the liposuction, specially printed clothing (similar to tights) is applied and fat mass is removed. The areas where the inspiration was emptied are reunited with the skin as soon as possible and the gap is filled. There may be minimal pain, burning, bruising and swelling after the procedure. Necessary treatments are performed for these disorders and the patient is ensured to have a good postoperative period. After the intervention, patients can return to their normal daily activities within 4-5 days. However, for intense activities (running, tennis, aerobics, etc.), it is necessary to wait for the swelling to subside and the tissues to settle (a period of 3-6 weeks). The shape of the body contours takes its final form when this edema (swelling) disappears.

Liposuction for Men
Liposuction, or in other words, aspiration-assisted lipectomy, lipoplasty or simply fat suction process, It is not a method that can be used for weight loss. Liposuction is used to remove fat accumulated in a certain area, where results cannot be achieved with diet or exercise. Just like women, men may request liposuction to remove fat from unwanted areas. In men, fat storage usually occurs in the breast (this condition is called gynecomastia), around the abdomen, waist, under the chin and neck. These can be removed with liposuction.
In this method, a hollow tube is inserted through a small incision and the fat is aspirated with the help of an aspirator attached to the end of the tube. The incisions are generally made in places that conform to the natural curves of the body and leave almost no visible scars. The best candidates for liposuction are people of normal weight and with localized fat accumulation. You must be physically healthy, psychologically stable and have realistic expectations. Most importantly, you must have tight and elastic skin. Because loose and sagging skin cannot adapt to the new contours of your body and surgical skin removal is required. In this case, unlike liposuction, more visible scars may remain.
