Aesthetic Forehead and Temple Lifting

What is aesthetic forehead and temple lift (brow lift) surgery?

There are normally transverse lines on the forehead, the depth of which varies from person to person. These lines become vertical between the eyebrows. As with the facial skin, the forehead skin begins to loosen and sag with age, and existing lines deepen. Over time, the eyebrows descend downwards and a tired-looking facial expression appears. Poor nutrition, smoking, irregular lifestyle, stress, air pollution, inadequate or no skin care, the effect of gravity and facial expressions facilitate this aesthetically disturbing result.

Who is a good candidate for this surgery?

This surgery is generally performed on male and female patients over the age of 40 who have no other health problems. With forehead lift surgery, the lines on the forehead are minimized. The eyebrows that are drooping over the eyes are lifted and brought to where they should be, giving the person a lively look, and at the same time, some of the lines next to the eyes can be eliminated to some extent. If there is excessive sagging and skin needs to be removed, the classical forehead lift method is applied. In the classical method, 4-5 cm below the hairline. A crown-like scar remains behind, but this scar is hidden in the scalp. However, when this method is applied, there is a long-lasting temporary loss of sensation on the scalp. Eyebrow lift surgery, which is performed to restore the eyebrows to their normal positions, is a surgery intertwined with forehead lift surgery. Additionally, there is no need for eyebrow lift surgery. Lifting the eyebrows and partially lifting the forehead by entering only from the temple area is not a preferred method.

Surgery?

Forehead lift surgery has recently been performed by the endoscopic method. In patients who do not need to remove excess tissue, the same result can be achieved with 3 or 4 2 cm incisions in the scalp behind the hairline. This method is applied to most patients. In this method, the postoperative period is more comfortable and there is no or minimal loss of sensation in the scalp. The surgery is performed in the operating room under hospital conditions, under the supervision of an anesthesiologist. While it can be done with general anesthesia, local anesthesia and intravenous sedation can also be applied. It takes about 1.5-2 hours. It is possible to go home the same day. If necessary, it can be performed simultaneously with other plastic surgeries. Then the duration of surgery and hospital stay will be longer.

After surgery?

The early post-operative period is usually comfortable. There may be general swelling and bruising on the forehead and around the eyes. There may be drowsiness and a feeling of tension. These will go away on their own within 2 weeks. A head bandage can be applied to leave the eyes, nose and mouth open. The bandage is removed after 2 days. General inspection and dressing change is made. The hair is washed and the bandage is reapplied if necessary. Stitches are removed after 5-7 days.

Return to normal life?

The surgery gives good results. In rare cases, touch-up may be necessary. The person can return to work and apply make-up after 2 weeks. It is recommended to avoid heavy exercises and sun for 2 months and to protect from external impacts. Since the newly given shape to the forehead and eyebrows will be affected by gravity, it will last sometimes for 5-10 years and sometimes for a lifetime, depending on the person's constitution.
