In these days of rain and cold weather, mothers' biggest fear is that their children will get sick. Wearing hats and thick clothes on top of each other to protect against the cold is always a challenging issue for children.
Medistate Kavacık Hospital Pediatric Health and Diseases Specialist Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Güvenç gave suggestions to families about clothing preferences during the winter period, saying, "Cold weather does not make babies and children sick, wrong clothing choices do, the important thing is to always keep the body temperature balanced."
PREFER THE ONION SYSTEM
With this method, he said. Stating that it will be easier to control the body temperature of children, Prof. Dr. Güvenç stated that body temperature can be prevented from increasing further by removing some of the clothing when necessary.
KEEP THEIR FEET WARM
Cold and wet feet easily risk catching cold. Prof. Dr. Güvenç said, "Avoid very heavy and thick socks that will disturb the child's feet inside the shoes. "Cotton, anti-sweat socks and shoes that fit well on the child's feet are important to keep the body temperature balanced," he said. Adding that the socks slip and gather on the foot in shoes that are too wide than necessary, and therefore the protection decreases, Güvenç said, "shoes that are seamless, waterproof and fit well should be chosen."
PAY ATTENTION TO BODY TEMPERATURE IN BABIES Since the fat layer in their bodies is not yet fully formed, it is more difficult for them to balance their body temperature. Stating that Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Güvenç said, "Babies' body temperatures should be checked frequently, in general, clothing that is one layer more than adults' clothing should be preferred, and if necessary, a blanket should be used." Stating that the most accurate result about body temperature can be obtained by checking the baby's chest and abdominal skin, Güvenç said, "Continuously If he/she is crying, restless, has cold hands and feet, has little movement, looks tired and weak, you may suspect that his/her body temperature has dropped. In babies, fingertips, nose and cheek tissues are most sensitive to cold stroke. If cold stroke is suspected in these areas, it would be useful to touch the cold area to your skin and blow warm air instead of directly approaching a heater or radiator, but if no results are obtained, it is necessary to consult a physician.
