Removable Prosthesis

Removable dentures (full and partial dentures):

Full and partial dentures replace missing teeth, restore lost function (chewing), phonation (speaking) and aesthetics to the patient, and restore oral health to the patient. These are appliances made to ensure the health and continuity of the remaining tissues and teeth. Since prostheses are mobile, that is, they can be put on and removed by the patient, the care, cleaning and care to be done by the patient are very important for the health of the prosthesis and the patient. In addition to restoring the missing teeth of the patient, the prosthesis used is also effective on the general health of the patient by restoring the teeth that are the beginning of the digestive system.

1) Total dentures (full palate): It is a form of prosthesis applied to patients who have lost all their teeth.

In recent years, total dentures are no longer the only option for toothless mouths. Implants placed in the jawbone and dentures prepared with support from them now give patients the feeling of chewing with their own teeth, and for this reason they are often preferred as an alternative to total dentures.

2) Partial partial dentures (partial palate): partial teeth. It is a type of prosthesis that allows clinging to the teeth with metal pieces called clasps (hook) made with a combination of special acrylic and metals in case of deficiency.

3) Precision retainer prostheses (snap prostheses): Partially toothless. It is a form of prosthesis applied to the mouth. There are hooks, nails etc. on the teeth. Since it does not contain metal apparatus, it is a more aesthetic treatment method than classical partial partial dentures.

4) Removable prostheses on implants: In patients whose bone amount (support) is not sufficient, implants are applied and support is provided by these implants. These are total-like prostheses made by taking The shape of the prosthesis and the amount of retention can be increased depending on the number of implants to be made.

Maintenance and cleaning of removable full and partial dentures;

A full or partial denture We can list the points that the patient should pay attention to as follows:

Remove your dentures after each meal and clean the inner and outer surfaces using a toothbrush + soap. Studies have shown that the method of cleaning the prosthesis by rubbing it with fingers under running water is effective in preventing the prosthesis. It has proven that it serves no purpose other than spreading microorganisms on the surface and on the hand. Be sure to clean the interior and exterior surfaces with a toothbrush and soap. If you have difficulty holding the slippery denture (denture) while cleaning it and you are worried about dropping your denture, do this on a soft cover. This small precaution will prevent your prosthesis from falling and breaking. Toothpaste may cause the polish on the outer surface of your prosthesis (denture) to disappear. If there is a loss in the polish of the prosthesis you use, this will provide an environment for microorganisms to adhere to the surface, making it difficult to clean your prosthesis. In such a case, contact your dentist and ask for the situation to be corrected by your dentist. When cleaning dentures (dentures), never use any cleaning agents produced for different purposes, such as bleach, dishwashing and laundry detergents, etc. These substances not only damage the structure of the prosthesis, but are also extremely dangerous for general health. You can carefully use tablets or solutions produced specifically for denture (denture) cleaning according to the manufacturer's instructions. Cleaning the oral tissues on which the prosthesis is placed is also extremely important. If you place your prosthesis in an unclean mouth after cleaning it, your cleaning will be in vain. After removing and cleaning your dentures, clean the toothless areas in the mouth with a soft toothbrush or gauze. If you have some teeth in your mouth, be sure to clean them with a toothbrush and toothpaste. In partial dentures, cleaning the hooks that allow the denture to hold on to the existing teeth in the mouth is extremely important in terms of protecting the teeth in the mouth. Food residues around and on the inner surface of the clasps will damage the teeth if they are not cleaned. It should be cleaned after every meal. When you remove your dentures, be sure to keep them in a container filled with water.

Never allow yourself or anyone else to perform operations such as abrasion or additional repair on your dentures without the supervision of your dentist. If you have any problems with your prosthesis, consult your dentist immediately. Regularly once every six months Go to your dentist for a check-up. These checks will help prevent future problems.

Do not forget that your dentures also have a lifespan and should be renewed at least every two to five years. Otherwise, the adaptation of your prosthesis to the changing tissues will be impaired and its use will be difficult.
