Pedodontics, also known as pediatric dentistry, is a branch of dentistry that deals with the oral and dental health of babies, children and young adults from birth until the permanent dentition is completed.

In addition to treating the problems that have arisen, it is also about finding the source of these problems and taking precautions to prevent them from occurring. Procedures applied for this purpose are called Preventive Dentistry. Preventive dentistry includes regulating eating habits, correcting wrong eating habits, providing training on oral and dental cleaning, procedures that can be applied to teeth such as local fluoride and fissure sealants, and regular check-ups.

Oral and dental care in babies;

As soon as your baby's first tooth erupts, you should start cleaning it. For this, you should choose gauze or a soft toothbrush. After breastfeeding your baby, it is important to wipe his gums and teeth with gauze or clean them with a toothbrush. You can also soak the brush in warm water for a few minutes to soften it even more.

When do babies' milk teeth appear?


Babies almost immediately after they are born. All baby teeth are formed, although they are hidden under the gums. These teeth usually start to erupt when the baby is six months old, or they appear slightly through the gums.

The timing of the first tooth eruption may vary from baby to baby. Generally, the first teeth to appear in babies are the lower front teeth. Following these, the four upper front teeth and two of the lower teeth erupt. After this, the teeth gradually take their place in the mouth, usually on both sides of the jaws at the same time.
