Gynecology, Obstetrics and In Vitro Fertilization Specialist Op. Dr. Seval Taşdemir explained what you need to know about unexplained infertility.
More than half of the couples who apply to the doctor with the desire to have children have unexplained infertility. Failure to achieve pregnancy after a year of unprotected life in cases where the expectant mother's ovaries are functioning regularly, the tubes are open, the uterus is healthy and the father-to-be's sperm values are normal; It is considered unexplained infertility. A significant portion of couples experiencing unexplained infertility, which we cannot diagnose with current technologies, can achieve pregnancy spontaneously without any help. It is not possible to explain the previous failures and the pregnancy achieved over time for these couples.
20 out of 100 couples without health problems cannot become pregnant for unknown reasons. If there is a problem in the reproductive system, pregnancy is prevented. The chance of pregnancy, which is around 15-20 percent every month for problem-free couples, drops to 3-5 percent in unexplained infertility groups. In other words, the possibility of spontaneous pregnancy still remains in these couples. In unexplained infertility; It is considered to be a temporary or permanent, simple or complex problem in the reproductive system. Sometimes there may be many problems at different stages and mechanisms.
Duration of infertility and age are important
The duration of infertility is less than four years and the age of the expectant mother is under 35. The choice should be vaccination treatment. If the mother's age is over 35, vaccination can still be done, but in vitro fertilization treatment should be started without increasing the number of vaccinations. In vitro fertilization is always an available treatment method for couples. However, easy treatments should be tried first. Couples who cannot achieve success with these methods should then undergo in vitro fertilization treatment.
IUI treatment
In IUI treatment, the sperm comes together with the egg at the right time. The development of one or two eggs is ensured through egg enhancing drugs, pills or injections. When the egg reaches a certain diameter, ovulation occurs with the help of cracking needles. This period is the time when the chance of pregnancy is highest. Ovulation, cracking needle It takes place approximately 36 hours after the Close to this time, sperm are taken and prepared and washed in the laboratory. Then, the fastest and healthiest ones are collected and injected into the uterus with the help of a soft catheter.
In vitro fertilization treatment
In in vitro fertilization treatment; Compared to vaccination, more drugs are used and follow-ups are more frequent. When the follicle diameters reach a certain size, eggs are collected using vaginal ultrasonography with a thin needle, 36 hours after the cracking needle, as in the insemination treatment. Each egg is cleaned and evaluated from surrounding cells under a microscope in a laboratory environment, and a sperm is injected into each mature egg using the microinjection method. After fertilization, the developing embryos are monitored in incubators and the selected embryos are transferred to the mother's uterus.
The most common factor in unexplained infertility is stress. Stress, which disrupts the harmonious functioning of the mechanism consisting of emotional, mental and physical integrity, also negatively affects the possibility of pregnancy. Women who are expecting menstrual date, intercourse timing, ovulation tracking and menstrual delay are faced with much more stress. As the chances of pregnancy decrease for women who do not receive enough support from their husbands, the stress increases exponentially. However, if couples stay away from stress and support each other, the probability of having a baby increases.
