Panic Attacks and Life

Panic attack is one of the most common psychological disorders that we hear about frequently in society. So what is a panic attack? Panic attacks are psychological seizures in which feelings of fear, anxiety and anxiety are experienced intensely, thoughts about the fear of death and fainting intensify, and physical complaints that cannot be interpreted physiologically are present.

OUR THOUGHTS DURING A PANIC ATTACK:

All the troubles experienced during a panic attack are real; but it has no physiological basis. They are the results of the anxiety we experience completely psychologically. The most important thing is that it is controllable. Remember that your brain is an organ that obeys your commands!!!

        Panic attack is not an uninterrupted situation, as the name suggests. It is experienced as seizures that occur at unexpected moments. For this reason, the person cannot be sure where, when and in what way these unpredictable attacks will occur. This increases the level of anxiety felt. Increased anxiety is the most important basis for preparing for a panic attack. Serious changes occur in the life of a person who is constantly in expectation. The most common change is the inability to leave the house, loss of interest in social life, and hopelessness.

        The person becomes unable to enjoy anything he/she used to do and enjoy; just like depression. He gets tired of constantly feeling fear and excitement. Studies conducted by the American National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH-ECA) have revealed that 65% of Panic Disorder patients are unemployed, 27% receive support from aid organizations, and 23% have used emergency services in the past years (Altıntaş, E.; Panik Quality of Life in Disorder: 3-Month Follow-Up Study; Specialization Thesis Study; Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry; 2006). The decreased quality of life as a result of these situations paves the way for different psychological problems such as depression to accompany panic attacks.

        If we need to give brief examples of what to do during a panic attack;

    The first step taken by patients in the treatment of panic attacks is to go to many different doctors in order to understand their physical problems. With clean results from every doctor visited, patients consult psychologists as the final treatment step. In addition to medication, psychotherapy has an important place in the treatment of panic attacks. The results obtained from drug treatments alone are not permanent and the problems may occur. It is observed that it recurs after a period of time. The most important part of the treatment is the restructuring of the dysfunctional thought systems that cause panic attacks.

    If you are experiencing such problems, you need to consult a specialist.
