The first purpose of IVF protocols is to develop the ovaries. With high-dose drugs applied for this purpose, it is ensured that more than one egg is produced. Stimulation of the ovaries begins on the second day of menstruation and the drug administration lasts for about 10 - 11 days. During this process, the development of the eggs is followed by ultrasonography follow-ups to be performed several times.
What is Cracking Needle?
When the mature eggs reach 16 - 20 mm in size, drugs known as "egg cracking needle" (Pregnyl or Ovitrelle) are made. Approximately 40 hours after the application of this drug, the developing eggs crack in the intra-abdominal cavity and ovulation occurs spontaneously. During IVF treatment, approximately 36 hours after these injections, eggs must be collected without ovulation. Although it is called "cracking needle" in the society, the purpose of application of the drug in IVF treatment is not the cracking of the eggs, but the "maturation" of the eggs. These needles provide the job of the LH hormone, which normally increases the fertilization capacity of the eggs. Although the cracking needles vary according to the type of drug, they can be applied from the hip to the muscle or from the navel to the subcutaneous tissue. A cracking needle should be made 36 hours before the laboratory will be prepared. In cases where the drug is administered early or the egg collection (OPU) process is delayed, the developing eggs may crack into the abdomen and become unusable for treatment. Although there is a chance of success in in vitro fertilization treatments to be performed by collecting the remaining eggs, it will decrease. For this reason, in vitro fertilization treatment is frequently canceled so that the patient does not bear the risks and costs of unnecessary anesthesia and operation. In cases where patients are in doubt, never check. It is necessary to contact the relevant physician before the stroke.
