WHAT IS ANAL CONDYLOMA?
Anal condyloma is a viral disease that can be transmitted sexually. Human “papillomavirus” (HPV) is the virus that causes anal condyloma. It is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases in the world. While the incidence rate in heterosexual men is between 10-70%, this rate is almost the same in sexually active women. Anal condyloma is a disease that can turn into cancer or precancerous lesions called intraepithelial neoplasia. However, HPV 6 and HPV 11 types can cause lesions in the anus that cause symptoms such as burning, itching, bleeding and pain. It can be seen most commonly in the anal (anus) region, as well as in the vagina, penis and perineum.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ANAL CONDYLOMA?
- It can be palpable in the anal area. or visible cauliflower-like swelling and is often confused with piles (hemorrhoids).
- Itching, burning, pain and bleeding in the anus
- Discharge and itching around the anus
WHO CAN ANAL CONDYLOMA BE SEEN?
- Heterosexual or homosexual men
- People with impaired immune systems
- HIV (+) people
- Those who have undergone kidney transplantation or received immunosuppressive treatment
WHAT IS ANAL CONDYLOMA TREATMENT?
Medical treatment, applications with caustic substances (podophilin, nitric acid, bichloroacetic acid, etc.),
Immunotherapy, interferon therapy
Electrocoagulation is applied by burning the lesions inside or in the anus, it is performed under general anesthesia, but it is not preferred in the treatment of large-scale lesions as it will disrupt defecation functions.
Cryotherapy is a treatment applied by freezing the lesions around the anus. It is applied under general anesthesia.
Laser is an expensive method that can also be applied to large lesions in and around the anus.
>Surgery is performed by removing large lesions in and around the anus. General anesthesia is required. It is the best treatment method for large-scale lesions.
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE AFTER THE TREATMENT?
Anal condyloma It is a disease with a high risk of recurrence after treatment. After the treatment, the patient should be followed up and lesions in other parts of the body should also be treated. Patients receiving anal condyloma treatment should abstain from sexual intercourse and their sexual partners should also be treated.
In summary, in terms of diagnosis and treatment of this disease; It can be defined as a serious problem that should be addressed with a "multidisciplinary approach", in addition to surgery, together with other specialties such as skin diseases, internal medicine and immunology.
