Are You at Your Most Current?

Why do we receive updates on our phones or computers? Program developers release updates to add new features to software, take precautions against possible security threats or fix bugs. The reason for these updates is to make the software better and safer for you.

These updates are not specific to technological devices. Nature also updates itself. The leaves falling in autumn and snakes shedding their skin are examples of this. As a part of nature, humans also change physically, meaning we continue to be updated as we age.

Most updates occur automatically. For example, all you have to do is press the confirmation button for an update coming to your phone, and the rest will happen automatically.

So, are updates necessary for the spiritual world of a person? We can answer this question with yes. We somehow cope with the challenging situations we encounter from an early age. The coping methods we used as children are very useful for those ages. For example, when we were 5 years old, we may have protected ourselves from our father, who frequently had angry outbursts and used violence, by hiding under the bed or in the closet. By hiding, we may have protected ourselves from violence. However, when we turn 35, we cannot protect ourselves by hiding or ignoring our problems. Now we need different coping methods that make our jobs easier. So now we need to install a new update for ourselves.

Unfortunately, as in technology and nature, updates do not occur automatically. We don't upgrade to our new version every birthday. Updating ourselves is much more difficult than pressing a button. The first way to start this process is to become aware. For example, how do you feel when your boss criticizes you? What do you do in that moment and afterwards? Notice your feelings and close your eyes. When was the first time you felt this way? The answer to this question depends on when you first learned about your reaction to your boss. If you think that these reactions are making your life difficult, you can get support from a mental health professional to update yourself and move on to the next level.
