The holiday has come again…. Today is a holiday, but do children still wake up early? Adults who say "Oh those old holidays", has the season of commercials that constantly refer to old holidays started? What about those of us who regret our holidays because they were impressed by the scenes they watched in movies with admiration for the West? Those of us who see the holiday as a holiday and a time for fun, as a necessity of the world of capitalism?
When holidays are considered from the perspective of individual and social psychology, it is seen that every holiday has the same purpose, regardless of language or religion. Be it Christmas, Easter, August 30 Victory Day, etc. They all actually have a universal language. This language is the language of love, the language of sharing, the language of unity and solidarity. These are the times when children learn to be a family, to socialize, to share, to get together with the pocket money they are given, which is the most fun part for children, to buy and give gifts, to save money, and to experience the feeling of being free with their own money. It is a good opportunity for the child to experience his own development in a healthy way and to pass this on to future generations. While children experience these, they are like a link in the chain, and the chain is completed by affecting other links in the entire age group. By visiting their elders, the little ones meet their needs for love and affection, as well as giving their elders the feeling of being remembered. The working middle-aged group also participates in this chain, meeting their own physiological need for rest and experiencing the pleasure of being the chain that connects the elders and the younger ones.
So how can we find common ground when there are as many different views as we mentioned at the beginning? Adults will continue to say "oh those old holidays". We will say this when we grow up, this will not change, because the holidays experienced in childhood are always special and missed, like everything else... We may not neglect to include our children in this chain in order to minimize this and ensure the continuity of the culture. Because they will be the architects of the new generation...
Let's talk about the much-discussed issue of holiday visit or holiday. As the holiday was long, holiday plans were made. Working people use holidays as an opportunity to relax and take a vacation after working hard throughout the year. Among all the hard work, there is only one Saturdays are holidays. A significant portion of our population is covered by people who are caught up in the struggle for life in so much hustle and bustle throughout the year. I can imagine how difficult it is to be in such a dilemma. If the discomfort of conscientious responsibility of not being able to visit one's elders goes on vacation, the stress of the whole year will continue... So, what will the holiday visits be like? In such cases, we can at least explain the situation to our elders and win their hearts, making our elders feel valued and remembered, and also doing the job of transferring this feeling to the younger generation.
As a final note, considering that it is the Eid al-Adha, here is a little advice about how and to what extent children will be involved in the slaughtering process in order to prevent our children from being negatively affected by this situation. Since children's abstract thinking abilities have not yet developed before the age of 7-12, they may experience this as a trauma and see what has been done as murder. It is more appropriate for the healthy development of these children to be kept away from the process. Children between the ages of 7 and 12 have developed their abstract thinking ability and can participate in this situation remotely at a certain distance. After the age of 12, they can participate more closely.
After our little advice, I wish everyone a happy holiday by emphasizing that the holiday is universal and that although there are holidays in different forms in every language and culture, the feeling it gives and serves the same purposes for psychological and social development…..
