Although teeth clenching, which has become a disease of our time for teeth and jaw joints, is seen in 50-75% of the society, the number of patients who consult their physicians with this complaint is far below this rate. Teeth clenching (grinding), which occurs with the increasing intense work tempo and stress today, damages both teeth and jaw joints.

Under normal conditions, teeth should only come into contact with each other when eating something, and teeth should not come into contact at other times. between 3-5 mm. There should be a gap (clearance). In dentistry, we call this “rest interval”. Jaws should also rest during sleep.

Especially when the person wakes up in the morning and feels headache, earache, pain at the bottom of the eyes, pain in the cheekbones, neck area, numbness on the face, clicking in the joint while eating something, the possibility of clenching the teeth is visible. should be taken into consideration. In addition, tooth marks on the edges of the tongue and the presence of white lines on the inside of the cheek may also be signs of teeth clenching.

If the person has frequent dental problems, if the restorations, fillings, and coatings frequently break or come off, this may be caused by teeth clenching or clenching. It may also cause grinding.

Teeth clenching (bruxism) can be detected by a dentist's examination. In the treatment, "splint" (night plate), which is specially prepared for the person by taking oral measurements, is used as a protection against damages that may occur in the chewing system, including the oral tissues. For people who do not want to use it as a night guard, applying "botox" to the chewing muscles can also be considered as an alternative treatment.
