Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases

When significant stenosis and/or occlusion is observed in the coronary vessels, balloon angioplasty can be performed in the same session or later, if appropriate. In balloon angioplasty, a specially made balloon is inflated for a short time in the narrow area within the vessel to widen the stenosis. Balloon surgery can be performed to treat multiple stenosis in the same vein or stenosis in more than one vein in the same session or in different sessions. When necessary, in addition to the balloon, a stent (cage) is placed in that area, again with the help of a balloon.

Balloon

During the balloon procedure, a stent (cage) is placed in the stenosis area. A catheter with an inflatable balloon at the tip is placed (A), after it is placed in the stenosis area, the balloon is inflated to open the stenosis (B).
In cases that are not suitable for balloon angioplasty, bypass surgery or drug treatment may be recommended.
In bypass surgery, the stenosis area in the vessel is removed. A vein is placed between the before and after, which acts as a bridge. This vein may be the patient's own leg vein or an artery taken from the chest. Thus, with the help of this bridge, blood can pass beyond the narrow or blocked area.

Artery bypass

Here, the left anterior descending artery (left anterior descending - We see the LIMAbypass performed on the LAD-)and the saphenous bypass performed on the right coronary artery (RCA).
Drugs used in coronary artery disease; These are drugs that dilate coronary vessels, reduce the load on the heart, prevent clot formation in that area, or lower cholesterol, which has very negative effects on atherosclerosis. Medicines should be used continuously and under the supervision of a doctor.

Here, (LAD) is connected to the leg vein (saphenous graft). anastomosis)we see. First, one end of the graft is sewn to the LAD, and then the other end is sewn to the aorta. Thus, the blood coming from the aorta can pass to the other side of the vessel and feed the heart, bypassing the blocked area.

Unfortunately, both the drugs used in the treatment of coronary artery disease, balloon and bypass, It does not eliminate vascular disease. Therefore, new lesions may occur in the same or different regions of the coronary artery. Stenosis may occur or mild stenosis may progress further and become serious stenosis and cause problems. Therefore, it is very important for patients to eliminate risk factors, use their medications regularly, and come for check-ups at the times recommended by their doctor and whenever they have a complaint in order to detect problems early.
