The common points of these stories are having a working mother and father, and the caregiver (mother, father, grandmother, grandmother, assistant sister, etc.) not providing enough verbal stimulation. , spending too much time in front of the television, playing games on tablets and computers for a long time, and not being able to spend time with peers. The harm of these technological products occurs when they are used uncontrolled. Because in one-way communication tools, an environment cannot be created to support the pre-verbal communication skills that the child needs to acquire. For a healthy language and speech development, the child must acquire communication skills such as attention, joint interest, turn taking, waiting, eye contact, imitation and listening. It is a misconception to say that a child who watches television for a long time has good attention span. Because cartoons, which do not challenge the person mentally and do not have a specific subject, literally hypnotize children with their colors and sounds.
By watching a cartoon with the child and asking questions about the cartoon, you can both spend quality time and support the child's language skills. Educational games on tablets and computers benefit communication skills and language development when played by the child under the control of an adult. The more the stimuli appeal to the senses, the faster the learning process occurs. Therefore, interacting with the child in a way that activates the senses of hearing, vision, touch, taste and smell will be much more effective than the use of technological tools.
