ADHD is a psychiatric disorder that manifests itself with symptoms of being easily distracted, hyperactivity and impulsivity (inability to postpone requests) at a level that is inappropriate for the individual's age and developmental level.
Attention Deficit related symptoms; inability to listen to lectures, constantly paying attention to the surroundings, making careless mistakes in exams, not taking responsibility for homework, completing homework sloppily in a very short time or extending it for hours, absent-mindedness, disorganization, difficulty in making plans, forgetfulness, losing things...
Hyperactivity; Fidgeting, not standing still even if his hands stop, being constantly in motion, constantly running around, climbing on objects, difficulty playing calmly, talking loudly in games, talking too much...
Impulsivity related symptoms; impatience, interruption, inability to wait in line, acting without thinking, doing whatever comes to mind...
The symptoms must be significant enough to affect the functionality in the individual's daily life and must continue for at least 6 months. Differential diagnosis is important because the symptoms seen in some physical diseases, divorce, mourning period, migration, traumatic life events, and periods of intense conflict and tension within the family can be confused with ADHD.
Diagnosis is based on clinical features, attention tests, family and teacher. The forms are evaluated and placed. The first step in treatment is individual therapy (anger control, problem-solving skills, empathy, fulfilling responsibilities, supporting attention skills), mother and father education, and measures and arrangements to increase compliance in cooperation with the school.
In ADHD, If there is a significant decrease in school-academic success, a significant deterioration in social relations-family communication, and a significant decrease in self-confidence due to constant negative criticism, drug treatment can be started.
Drugs should be used regularly in Attention Deficit. Drugs used are not addictive. The duration of treatment is at least 1-2 years.
