Sentinel Lymph Node Marking with Nanotechnological Magnetic Substance

COMFORT AND SUCCESSFUL COSMETIC RESULT AFTER CANCER TREATMENT WITH PARALLELOGRAM MASTOPEXY;

Every year, 1.6 million new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed worldwide. The current surgical treatment approach includes sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in addition to breast-conserving surgery methods. This method allows the correct determination of the next steps of the treatment and the correct detection of the cancer stage.

Since 2012, magnetic nanocolloid sentinel lymph node has been used as an alternative to only technetium and blue dye methods, which are standard in sentinel lymph node marking (SLNB). marking has been put into practice. With this method, armpit lymph nodes can be protected more safely in breast cancer surgical treatment and patient comfort after surgery is satisfactory. This current method has begun to be applied in the surgical treatment of breast cancer, and 10 clinical studies involving more than 1200 patients are currently being conducted in 12 European countries.

The findings presented in more than 650 patients so far are that magnetic SLNB can be easily and safely performed. and it has been shown that it can be implemented successfully. This method is a new technique for sentinel lymph node localization, made with nanotechnological magnetic material and does not contain radioisotopes. Following safe and proven medical practice, magnetic material is first injected behind the nipple to produce a detectable signal. A special probe is then used by surgeons to locate the sentinel lymph nodes – this is important to determine how far the cancer has spread.

Thanks to this new system, the nanotechnological magnetic material can be used against a nuclear medicine support or with high allergen properties. Since it can be injected without the need for a substance, the surgeon remains in control throughout the entire procedure, especially when applied together with the breast-conserving surgery techniques we are experienced in. Thus, by making SLNB marking safer, post-operative patient comfort is ensured and loss of arm functions is prevented.
