“Mom... I'm so bored, what should I do?…”
Does this sentence sound familiar to you?
So now, let's take you back to the childhood of the past, and then tell you what today's childhood has lost. I will tell you what problems they faced and why they were bored…
Living conditions were very difficult in the past. People could barely feed themselves, technology was not developed and the product variety was not that wide. Despite this, rag dolls, wooden cars and a few marbles were great reasons to have fun and be happy in the childhood of that period.
So, what happened to the children that made them so dissatisfied, insatiable and even unhappy?
Children were given all kinds of blessings of technology to make them happy, they were bought all the toys they wanted at the toy store, a variety of clothes and shoes were bought every year, they were given plenty of pocket money to spend in the school canteen, children were placed at the head of the decision-making mechanism of the family, and every fight the child had with his friend, whether right or wrong, was The child was defended on behalf of the child, and whenever he experienced boredom, the child was immediately entertained by his family. The result is that children are unhappy again...
Because we have deprived children of the "ability to delay gratification" by giving them whatever they want, whenever they want. Postponing gratification or postponing gratification means living under stress and being busy with a job. We, on the other hand, forgot the concepts such as patience and willpower and opened the doors of unhappiness to our children just to make the child happy.
The first things that entered through the door of unhappiness were tablets and phones, which are the toys of today's children. Every time we were bored or stuck in our children's hands, we gave it to our children, seeing it as a reward or a saving object. We gave but; "Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, Difficulty in Focusing, Learning Disorders, Social/Emotional Developmental Delay, Childhood Depression, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Anger Problems, Decreased Academic Achievement, Slowdown in the Formation of New Synaptic Connections in the Neurons in the Brain, Fears, We also gave some problems such as "Phobias, Obsessions". The rapid transitions they are exposed to in front of the screen, with special effects r and graphic explosions; It caused such important problems that were not common in the past but are frequently encountered in today's children.
Another thing we let in through the door of unhappiness; What happened was that we separated children from nature and the environment. The social and emotional development center of the child's brain is programmed to be strong and well-equipped. But children who spend time at home for a long time; He began to feel unhappy, not being able to learn new things because he was away from new stimuli in the environment, missing new skills because he did not encounter difficulties, and not being able to socialize because he did not make new friends.
He started to feel unhappy, calling this state boredom. The happiness of our children, whom we left alone in the virtual world while the world is still standing, is hidden in the steps we will take as parents.
I hope that we will raise happy children whose emotional, social and moral development progresses in a positive direction, whose academic success is high, and who find a place in real life, not in the virtual world. We become parents.
