EFFECTIVE LEARNING AND EFFICIENT WORKING

In the world and period we live in, individuals lead a more success-oriented life. At this point, academic success is of great importance. Often, parents' and teachers' instructions to children and young people begin with the word "work". However, it is clear that these and similar directives do not yield positive results. Because there are some important points and methods that need to be taken into consideration for effective learning to occur. In this article, I will touch upon the points and methods in question.

Learning is a continuous change in behavior or thoughts through repetition or experience. It begins with birth and continues until the end of life. There are some concepts that enable learning to be effective, that is, long-lasting.

The definitions of these concepts and their key recommendations are summarized below.

Method: It is the path to be followed for learning to occur. The student can achieve success by applying study methods appropriate to him/her.
Memory: It is the organism's recording of a past event. It is an extension of learning and becomes involved as soon as information is learned. Memory also plays a big role in success. In order for information to be remembered, memory must go through three stages. The first stage is registration. Before remembering, perception comes into play. Information must be encoded in order to be remembered. The second stage is storage (preservation), and the third stage is the retrieval of the stored information, that is, use. Memory is of three types:
Emotional memory: It is the memory in which information coming from the sense organs is received. It stays in memory for 1-5 seconds.
Short-term memory: It is the human's memory that is constantly active.
Long-term memory:Its capacity is unlimited. However, by placing the acquired information into this system, it becomes easier to select and use the information.
Efficiency: The basis of productivity is to achieve the most learning in return for unit working time and effort. Factors affecting efficient work are as follows:
Purpose-Oriented Work: One of the most important points to consider in increasing efficiency and achieving success is that the work is purpose-oriented. So, first of all, the aim is It needs to be determined.
Planning: Being productive is only possible with planned work. The student's awareness of his/her own capacity while making a study plan can change the duration and form due to individual differences. A student should understand the following by planning:
Determining his/her current opportunities and planning in advance how to use them.
Determining how much time he/she will study for which course.
Identifying the factors that will negatively affect his/her studies and taking precautions for them in advance.
br /> Study Time: An important point in learning is the study time. In this regard, there are differences between people due to individual differences. The principle that applies to determining the duration is to determine the time period in which a student can maintain his attention and activity from beginning to end. This period is the most suitable study period for that student. Studies have shown that working in 20-40 minute sessions increases productivity. What has been learned should be repeated for 10 minutes and rest for 10 minutes. During rest, the student should reward himself. Unfortunately, two difficulties may arise at this point. One of these is that the student's own repetition is unnecessary, and the other is that the 10-minute rest period is prolonged for students with weak self-discipline. However, these difficulties can be overcome with supports that increase the student's self-confidence.
Working environment: The student's working environment is one of the important factors affecting his productivity. The desk is of appropriate size and position; The amount of light, temperature, sound and oxygen should be at appropriate levels.
Rest: Qualified rest time significantly increases learning and efficiency.
Taking responsibility and being active: Preliminary preparation before the lesson. Activities such as participation in class, asking questions, studying the subject with the subject-part-whole method are also important elements that positively affect learning.
Leisure time and social activity: Within a plan where the above suggestions are implemented, the individual can spare time for himself/herself. should create free time. These times should be filled with enjoyable activities. A student who attends his classes regularly, works daily and in a planned manner, He will always get positive results from his studies.

Finally, in order to work efficiently and be successful, the following principles should be followed:

  • Learning the subject to study
  • Concentrate your attention on the subject you are working on.
  • If you are mentally and physically tired, choose to do your writing work.
  • Make sure to plan your working hours.
  • Be active to learn the subject you are studying.
  • Use helpful resources.
  • Do not move on to another subject without learning it.
  • Remember that repetition is an important element in studies. .
  • From now on, they will continue to contribute to the future by being prepared in the faculties/departments of Hacettepe University Dentistry, METU Sociology, Bilkent University Architecture, Gazi University Electrical and Electronics, TOBB International Politics.

We wholeheartedly congratulate all the students who have achieved their dreams and wish them continued success.
