Healthy skin has a pinkish sheen, and in case of blemish problems, the melanin substance that gives color to the skin accumulates in greater amounts than it should.
Blemishes may occur as a result of melanin accumulation in the superficial part or deep layer of the skin. The causes of skin spots are quite diverse: Excessive exposure to sunlight, hormonal changes such as pregnancy, use of birth control and medication such as cortisone, spots of unknown origin that occur at birth or during childhood, may develop due to familial (genetic) reasons.
Since some of these skin spots can cause serious health problems, they need to be followed by doctors. Some stains do not cause any health problems, but create a significant cosmetic discomfort that makes the person unhappy. In such cases, the skin has a dull, dull, rough appearance and causes the person to be unable to go out without applying concealer or make-up. Skin blemishes may develop on the face, but can also be seen on the back of the hands, neck and décolleté. Although spots are known as a skin problem seen in women, they can also be observed in men.
Melasma

Additionally, the use of birth control medications can cause spots by affecting hormones. For this reason, melasma is popularly called a pregnancy spot. Melasma has a benign course in some people and may disappear completely at the end of pregnancy or when birth control medication is discontinued. In some people, it has a very resistant course, and as time passes, the shade of brown becomes darker.
Freckles
Freckles, medically called ephelisus, are usually inherited from the family. . It is seen at an early age, in childhood. They are spotty light brown spots that are often seen on the cheeks and nose.
Sun freckles, also known as age spots, are seen on the hands, neck, décolleté and face areas, and their numbers are different for everyone.
Skin tags
Skin tags develop as sagging as a result of decreased skin elasticity in middle and older ages. These are completely harmless and benign skin sagging.
Moles
Moles can be congenital or develop during childhood or in the 20s. Since some of the moles may become malignant structures over time, they should be followed by a doctor. Some of them are completely benign, but their dark color may cause cosmetic discomfort as they cause a spotted, mottled appearance on the face.
Acne Blemishes
Acne is a skin condition seen in oily skin. It is usually observed during adolescence. Treatment is a long process that requires patience. Picking and causing trauma to acne creates dark brown ring-shaped spots in the acne area. In these people, it is necessary to perform blemish treatment along with acne treatment.
Blemish Treatments
In all blemish types, sunlight is the most important factor that increases the blemish. The use of a sunscreen with a factor of 30 or above in every season constitutes the first step of spot treatment. While some skin spots can disappear completely with treatment, some spots can lighten by 60-70 percent despite a long treatment process.
Nowadays, spot treatment can be done with lasers. The preferred lasers for stains are Q switch NdYAG lasers and fractional carbon dioxide lasers. The special lasers we use in spot treatment act on the melanin substance that causes the spot. Q switch NdYag laser systems and special spot treatment applications called carbon peeling are successful. Melanin substance can be broken down by applying carbon lotion to the face and applying different laser light at various wavelengths. This laser system has an application mode called KTP and successful results are obtained on superficial stains. Especially effective fading can be achieved in freckles and sun freckles.
Q switch NdYag laser sessions should be performed as 6-8 sessions, once a week or every 10 days. The application only takes 20 minutes.
Since there is no damage to the upper layer of the skin in this treatment method, the person can return to daily life immediately after the procedure.
The most important advantage of the procedure is that it can be performed successfully not only in winter but also in summer, like other spot treatments.
How should stain treatment be done in winter?
Fractional carbon dioxide laser systems act on the stain. It breaks down the stain by sending laser light to the skin through small micron-diameter channels. Sessions are applied every 20 days or once a month. It is a laser that can only be applied during the winter period. After the application, redness and flaking occur on the skin, lasting for a few days. Depending on the darkness of the stain, the number of sessions of treatment is decided.
