What is a Bladder Tumor?
It is the development of a tumor in the bladder. At first, it grows in the form of a mulberry towards the bladder cavity. If it does not show any symptoms, it takes on the appearance of cauliflower, and if it goes unnoticed and spreads to distant organs, it can be fatal.

Bladder cancer may not cause symptoms at first and may have an insidious course. The first symptom is usually bleeding from urine. Bleeding in a patient who smokes and is over 50 years of age should be taken into consideration. Bleeding may be fresh red or burgundy colored. Apart from bleeding, burning sensation in urination, clotted urine, and inability to urinate may occur. Flank pain may mean that the disease is progressing.

What happens if a bladder tumor is not treated?
Bladder cancers occur slowly and It develops insidiously. If it is caught early, that is, if the cancer is inside the bladder and has not spread to the deep layers of the bladder, its treatment is possible without removing the bladder. If it has spread to the bladder wall, then treatment is only possible by removing the bladder. However, if the disease has metastasized, the chance of curative and destructive treatment is lost and one can only live a little longer with chemotherapy.
What are the Examination Methods of Bladder Tumor?
In the diagnosis of bladder cancer, first there is suspicion, then a full urinalysis, ultrasonography, and if a tumor is detected, Tomography or MRI is performed in necessary cases. Definitive diagnosis is made by looking inside the bladder with an optical instrument called cystoscopy. In some cases, when a biopsy is taken, this is often not necessary and the entire tumor is scraped as much as possible.
How is Cystoscopy Performed in Bladder Tumor?
It is a 15-minute procedure performed with local or general anesthesia. The patient can go home immediately after local anesthesia. It can be done under office conditions.
What are the Treatment Methods when a Bladder Tumor is Detected?
TUR –MT (Closed method of excision of the bladder tumor):
General or, if possible, the entire tumor in the bladder is removed with regional anesthesia. In some cases, the tumor has filled the bladder and in these patients, only pathological samples are taken. It is very important to take samples from the bladder wall and tumor base using the correct method. Otherwise, the patient may undergo unnecessary surgery again.
9- How is the Post-Operative Follow-up for Bladder Tumor?
If the pathology result says that there is only a tumor in the superficial layer, the patient is very lucky. 70% of patients actually fall into this group. Then, depending on the type of tumor, medication may be administered only for follow-up or into the bladder for up to 6 weeks. Patients are monitored with a cystoscope (looking into the bladder with an optical instrument) every 3 months in the first year and every 6 months in the following years.
Radical Cystectomy (Complete Removal of the Bladder with the Prostate):
If the tumor has spread to the muscle layer of the bladder, then closed surgery will not save the patient. Surgery is required in which the entire bladder and prostate are removed. This surgery takes 4-6 hours. The patient stays in bed for 7-10 days. After pathology, either follow-up or chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy are added to the treatment.
How is the Bladder Made from the Intestine?
For this, surgery is required. We usually take a section of about 50 cm from the small intestine, fold it inside itself, make a bag, and connect the urinary ducts to this bag and the bag to the penile canal called urethra. The surgery takes 6-7 hours. Hospital stay is approximately 8-10 days.
Who it is not suitable for : Those who are elderly and infirm, and those who have a tumor in the prostate are not candidates for this method.
