What is Hole in the Heart (Shunt Lesions)?

Shunt lesions can be caused by an opening (hole) in the wall between the auricle (ASD), ventricle (VSD) or both chambers (AVSD) of the heart, or an intermediate vessel that should be present in every baby and should be closed after birth between the two major arteries leaving the heart. (PDA) is left open.
