The question of who can apply this procedure, known as the happiness stick, or medically known as penile prosthesis, is one of the frequently asked questions.
First, let's talk briefly about the prosthesis. There are 4 different types of penile prostheses; the first type used was the one-piece malleable prosthesis that can be bent and bent. Malleable prostheses are prostheses that are placed in one piece inside the penis, which when the patient needs an erection (hardening), he straightens the penis on which the prosthesis is placed with the help of the hand, giving it a hardened penis, and after intercourse, he bends it and turns it into a deflated penis. These prostheses are easier to install and take less time. Since there is no pump mechanism, malfunction of the device is very rare. Since its use does not require fine motor hand movements, it can be preferred in older patients for whom the partially swollen appearance of the penis is not a cosmetic problem. There is no hardening or fading as in physiological erection, it can only be shaped by bending and bending. Penis length cannot be increased with these prostheses. During the procedure, the penis length is measured and a prosthesis suitable for the length of the patient's penis is fitted. As with any prosthesis, there may be a risk of infection. For this reason, individuals with impaired circulation and diseases affecting the immune system (chronic steroid use, diabetes) should be more vigilant in terms of infection, wound cleaning and treatment with appropriate antibiotics when necessary is important.
The second type of penile prosthesis is two-piece. It is a penis prosthesis. While one part of this prosthesis is placed in the penis, as in the one-piece prosthesis, the other part is placed in the bag called scrotum. These two parts are connected to each other with thin tubes, and the fluid in the pump placed in the scrotum (the bag containing the testicles) fills the prosthesis in the penis through the tubes and a full erection is achieved, but since there is no additional reservoir in the two-piece prosthesis, the area to be filled with fluid in the penis is very limited and this Its dull state can also be seen from the outside of the laundry. Cosmetically, it is more similar to one-piece prostheses, but there is no complete deflation.
Our other penis prosthesis is a 3-piece prosthesis. These prostheses, like the two-piece ones, have a part inside the penis and a part in the scrotum. . The third piece is placed in the groin. This third part is called the reservoir and has a fluid capacity of approximately 60 cc. In this way, the penis is completely deflated when not in use (as in healthy individuals) and a full erection is achieved during use. Physiologically, three-piece prostheses best imitate the natural penis.
A subtype of three-piece prostheses are prostheses that can expand both transversely and longitudinally. These prostheses work with a similar mechanism to 3-piece prostheses.
After prosthesis surgeries, patients are recommended abstinence for 6 weeks. After tissue healing occurs, the patient is practically explained by his doctor how to use the prosthesis 2-3 weeks later. During this period, in case of high fever, redness, pain and discharge in the surgery area, the patient should immediately consult his doctor.
