SPERM AND EMBRYO FREEZING
Sperm Freezing :Sperms can be subjected to freezing before undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Even sperm samples with low sperm count problems can be saved for use in future in vitro fertilization or microinjection treatments. Liquid nitrogen is used for the freezing process. Theoretically, frozen cells can be stored under appropriate conditions for very long periods of time. When thawed, the motility and viability rates of frozen sperm may fall below their pre-freezing values.
Embryo Freezing:In in vitro fertilization applications, a maximum of three embryos are transferred to minimize the risk of multiple pregnancy. . Freezing the excess embryos obtained provides both an economic and psychological advantage to the patient. Additionally, when frozen embryos are transferred, the patient does not need any treatment. Embryos frozen by obtaining permission from the couples can be stored in liquid nitrogen for three years under a law that came into force in Turkey in 1997.
