Every day, on television, in newspapers and on websites, we witness both physical and psychological violence against millions of women who share the same fate, even in different cities. First of all, violence is one of the biggest problems of public health. Violence is a serious concept that is increasing in our country and around the world and causing death. Among the reasons why men commit violence against women: the first reason is gender discrimination, the man's desire to establish his own dominance over women, show of power, keeping under control and control, economy... All of them can be gathered under the title of violence against women. Women who are subjected to violence continue to live in despair and insecurity. Perhaps the man increases the level of violence, causing the woman's death.
We should not forget that we are talking about a life, and violence should not be called that common state of 'insanity'. I do not think that violence is a loss of control except in some cases (alcohol and substance use). I call a choice a fist raised in a difficult situation when men cannot express themselves clearly. So, how well do we know these types of violence? Do you know which type of violence you have been exposed to?
TYPES OF VIOLENCE
1) PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: It means harming the body through direct contact. Threatening body movements, gestures and facial expressions, loud voices, all kinds of attitudes and behaviors are physical violence. The most common attitudes of physical violence are;
-
Punching, slapping, shouting, kicking
-
Throwing a hard object, squeezing the throat , bind
-
Force to commit suicide
-
Deliberate killing
-
A locking people in places
2) PSYCHOLOGICAL VIOLENCE: Showing anger, rage and hatred, making one feel inadequate, creating a feeling of guilt, humiliating, mocking and constantly criticizing , humiliating, and constantly trying to hit weak points are the most basic elements of psychological violence. Even though psychological violence is invisible, it creates huge wounds inside the person that are difficult to heal. The most common attitudes are;
-
Not meeting emotional needs (love, affection, support, value)
-
Exposing him to hurtful and humiliating behavior
-
Insulting him about his physical appearance, personality, family and hurting his dignity
-
Insulting and swearing in front of others
-
Making people feel sick, weak, needy and dependent
3) ECONOMIC VIOLENCE: Nowadays, we have come to such a time that money, which is more valuable than love, moral values and respect, has become a threatening and controlling element. Economic violence occurs when money is used as a punishment to ensure the continuation of life and to meet needs. The main examples of economic violence are;
-
Not allowing the person to work, and not allowing the person to work when he/she works
-
Leaving the person penniless or leaving small amounts of money Waiting for him/her to complete his daily work
-
Preventing him from saving money, opening an account or standing on his own feet
-
Making him beg for money or exploiting his financial income.
-
Forced to borrow money, to have a loan taken out
While Turkey is developing, there is one element that is regressing and that is violence. Women continue to be victims of violence all over the world! Regardless of the type of violence, all forms of violence leave permanent physical and psychological damage. The emergence of violence against women depends on many factors.
Social role factors; roles and models imposed on women and men. If I were to give an example: Don't we start assigning roles to men and women in the womb? Oh boy, let everything be blue! Son of our house! Oh girl, we'll buy you a pink room set now, she's a mother's girl! When you grow up, you can help your mother with the housework! Don't forget to buy a car or a gun for a man and a doll for a girl! These roles, which we inculcate from childhood, are forcibly instilled in tiny bodies by parents. A study conducted by the World Health Organization in 48 countries shows that violence against women is tried to be justified by established male-female roles. What about our proverbs? 'He who does not beat his daughter, beats his knee.' 'He who beats his wife. 'You will never leave out the stick from your back and the colt from your belly.' We can count it among the factors that legitimize violence. Unfortunately, we are a society that does not know how to raise children. Even though our society is progressing, the dominant attitude is still 'you tell me, you are a man'... Division of duties emerges at a very early age. As a result, the man reveals his own dominance. In fact, we create them. There are many responsibilities that fall on parents. Whatever the child sees in the family, he takes it as a role model and carries it forward.
What I want to mention is that it is necessary to prevent violence at an early age and to instill in the future that love and moral values will exist with respect, not violence. Among the factors that increase violence day by day, what we call the "cycle of violence" is possible. He loves me and beats me! I can't leave my home! Hope one day he will stop beating! Unfortunately, our women are exposed to brutal violence and death. As a result of research, one in every two women is exposed to violence. 1 woman is raped and killed every 4 hours. According to other research, 44% of women exposed to violence do not even tell their closest ones about the violence they experienced. 89% of women do not apply to any institution to get support.
So, what should be done for this? I wish you to grab your cup of tea on Saturday morning, read it carefully, and share it with those around you.

In order to end violence against women, a strong solution-oriented state policy and a violence-preventive attitude must be developed. I think that a separate unit should be opened in the police force to combat violence against women and sexual crimes.
-
It is obvious that legal rights are weak, policies are inadequate and implementation is lacking. The penalties should be rearranged to ensure that they are high penal sanctions.
-
In order for women and men to have equal status in society, care should be taken to ensure the justice of gender role models. Everyone must do their part.
-
In addition to women-oriented studies, I am also in favor of providing training to men. Of course, cultural customs and traditions, patriarchy How long it allows this is debatable...

Especially when I look at the media, it does not report on violence as much as it should. Especially in today's age, when social media appeals to 70 million people... What is violence? What are the factors? Are we conscious enough? Instead of just talking about the losses, we should discuss the methods and bring up where we are lacking in unity.
Violence that negatively affects the country is a social problem. Finally, I am sure that women, our women, will stand on their feet and continue to fight much more successfully and shoulder to shoulder for a strong future. Women are both mothers, housewives and wives... Let's give our working women, who have more than one identity, the value they deserve.
