As the big exam day approaches, the stress level in both young people and their families
increases. This situation sometimes becomes an obstacle to exam success. Too
excessive stress both negatively affects the student and creates panic in the family.
I would like to share with you some useful advice as exams approach. This first
article primarily includes suggestions for young people who will take the exam. In my second
article, suggestions for families will be published.
Recommendations for Young People Taking the Exam
1- Study as systematically as possible until the exam time. In the last week before the exam
slow down the pace a little. Rest your brain as much as possible a few days before. Just
review the points that bother you.
2- Don't fall into the trap of not knowing anything. Before the exam, most young people have the anxiety that they
don't know anything. Since we will not have the chance to repeat all the subjects in the last day,
remind yourself that you have already done the best you can with your years of experience.
3- Do not perceive stress negatively. Yes, a lot of stress really does negatively
affect a person, but some stress is a factor that positively affects success. After all, you are taking an exam
and it is quite normal to feel a little stressed. An expectation such as "I should never get stressed" is unrealistic.
4- Give yourself the opportunity to rest. Don't just focus on the exam, make time for things you enjoy from time to time (but not too
). This will make it easier for new information to enter your mind, as your mind
will be relaxed. Remember, not hard work
but quality and conscious work brings success.
5- Don't panic if you can't sleep at night. Remember that many young people who will take the exam with you that night will experience the same stress and will not be able to sleep. That's why almost everyone will have similar levels of insomnia as you. In addition, for a young person, one day of insomnia does not cause significant performance loss.
6- Do not attach more meaning to the exam than normal. The university entrance exam is, of course, an important test for your life. However, giving too much meaning to the exam will increase the stress level of the person taking the exam.
7- Keep your expectations neither high nor low. Some students aim to get into departments with much higher scores than they normally get from the course
course, while some students underestimate their
achievements. Having realistic expectations protects the person from disappointment and feelings of inadequacy.
8- Do not evaluate your value based on the university or department you earned. Let's not forget that every
university has its pros and cons. In addition, there are many education and master's degree options that can be taken from outside
after university education in our country. There is no end to self-improvement.
9- Be sure to visit the university you want. See their physical conditions, investigate their social activities, if any. Try to communicate with those who work and study in the department. Having prior knowledge
will help you shape your ideas more firmly.
10- Make affirmations. The day before you take the exam, before going to bed at night, visualize the exam day in a positive way
and sleep like that. Get disaster scenarios completely out of your mind.
11- Don't focus on a single question during the exam. You may be asked a question that you do not know or cannot answer.
But remember, this is only one question. Don't get discouraged and move to an area where you can solve
easier. You can come back later.
I wish success and good luck to all young people who will take the exam.
