We had a long holiday break. Everyone took a break from their jobs for a long time and rested, refreshed and relaxed. After all, isn't that the purpose of the holiday? We kind of reset ourselves. So, why do we feel unhappiness, fatigue and reluctance upon returning from vacation? Aren't these holidays supposed to be good for us? This situation is called post-holiday syndrome.
Actually, the name is quite self-explanatory, but let me explain it anyway.
What is Post-Holiday Syndrome? What are the symptoms?
If we need to consider it in a diagnostic sense, it would be correct to include it in adjustment disorder. It can be explained as people having difficulty adapting to their own lives and responsibilities after the holiday. The symptoms are; We can list many symptoms such as depressive feelings and thoughts, reluctance, feeling like there is no energy, appetite and sleep irregularities, joint pain, difficulty focusing. All of these symptoms do not have to be present in the same person.
How Can We Cope with Post-Holiday Syndrome?
Soften the Transition Process
Perhaps you may be saddened by the end of your holiday that you have been dreaming of going on for a year. In this case, it would be best to smooth the process. For example, you can adapt the activities you do on holiday to your region. Organize city trips on weekends. If there is a pool etc. nearby, you can visit these places after work or on weekends. Take a walk in the evening. If you are overwhelmed with housework, you can still eat out once a week and adapt yourself to your routine life.
Focus on Positive Things in Your Work
This is the reason why resignations are increasing. The best way to get through this period without any damage is to remember the good things about your job. You can also do this exercise by writing. List why you chose that job, the qualities you like about your colleagues, and the things they add and will add to you. You may have difficulty finding positive things when you have this syndrome, but do not give up.
You can get out of this situation with little things like these and you will not have difficulty in returning to your routine. Despite these, your negative emotions still do not go away. If you think it is affecting you negatively, I strongly recommend that you consult a specialist.
