INTERNAL DISEASES AND MEDICAL ONCOLOGY SPECIALIST ASST. ASSOCIATE PROF. DR. TUNÇ GÜLER: “30 PERCENT OF CANCER INCIDENCE CAN BE PREVENTED WHEN PRECAUTIONS ARE TAKEN”
Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology Specialist Assist. Assoc. Dr. Tunç Güler said that 30 percent of cancer incidence can be prevented if necessary precautions are taken.
Making a statement on February 4, World Cancer Day, Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology Specialist Assist. Assoc. Dr. Tunç Güler stated that this year's slogan in the fight against cancer was determined as "Not Impossible" and added: "Cancer treatment and getting rid of cancer are not impossible. To achieve this, four elements have been determined. The first of these elements is protection from cancer. We need to take the necessary precautions for these. First of all, we should not consume tobacco and tobacco products. We must eat carefully against obesity. We should exercise and choose healthy living. These are all factors that play a very important role in preventing cancer. If these precautions are taken, 30 percent of cancer incidence can be prevented. So what does this mean? There are 165 thousand cancer patients every year in Turkey. "We have the chance to eliminate 1/3 of this," he said.
Tunç Güler touched upon the importance of early diagnosis in cancer and said: “Early diagnosis is cancer. It is the most effective screening method among the various ones. We have all screening facilities for common cancer diseases. What we get from early diagnosis is that it increases patients' chances of surviving this disease. Cancer treatment is not impossible. Making the treatment accessible is among the goals. Among the goals of the World Cancer Organization for 2025 is to increase the accessibility of treatment for cancer patients to 80 percent.”
