Natural Parenting and Attachment-Based Sleep Approach

The first way to have a quality sleep and go to sleep is through quality wakefulness. The more quality time you spend with your baby while he/she is awake, the more the baby will be satisfied with mother/father/life and fill his/her attention bag and will not have difficulty sleeping. Because sleep is a state of physical/mental separation and the baby who is not satisfied with his parents will not want to be separated.

Your parenting style also affects the transition to sleep a lot. The parenting style we see from our own parents and the attachment style we have with our spouse also affect our attachment style with our baby.

The other issue is monitoring the baby's signals. There are sleep signals that we call early and late. Rubbing the eyes, becoming dull, red eyes, playing with one's hair and ears are signs of early sleep, while losing patience/interest, starting to fall frequently, whining that turns into crying and becoming increasingly angry are signs of late sleep. The sooner you detect sleep signals and go to your room, the easier it will be for you to fall asleep.

The issue of regulation will be explained in more detail later.

Diving is a skill that babies can do while they are in the womb and they do not need to learn it.

SOLUTIONS TO FREQUENT WAKE-UP PROBLEMS

Why Does My Baby Wake Up Frequently?

Your baby's frequent waking and short naps during the day should be evaluated from a holistic perspective. Although there may be very individual reasons, the general reasons are as follows:

ENDING SLEEPING BY BREASTFEEDING, ROCKING AND WALKING

Not every baby who sleeps by breastfeeding develops sleep problems or frequent waking problems, and in this sense, putting him to sleep by breastfeeding It's not a big problem. The only problem is that the baby does not know any other way to sleep by breastfeeding, and the baby should also know other methods of regulation before sleep (regulation by social interaction). And when the moment of diving coincides with sucking, the baby may become unable to dive without the breast and k waking may occur.

Shaking is an experience that the baby is accustomed to while in the womb, and when the baby is born, it can calm down with gentle swings. However, if this shaking occurs rapidly, this is a serious stimulus for the baby. So, you actually wake your baby up while trying to put him to sleep, and eventually the baby gets groggy and falls asleep. However, he may wake up when his stupor wears off.

Carrying him around the room also calms him down, but if it coincides with the moment of diving, it can become a control pattern again. Moreover, while a short walk beforehand can calm your baby down and put him to sleep, you will need to tour the whole house.

Whichever of these methods you use to put your baby to sleep, the first thing you need to do is to put him/her down in stages. Changing your baby's sleeping hours, the way he sleeps, where he sleeps, and his day and night sleep all at once can stress the baby. Therefore, as much as possible, the change should start from night sleep. If he wakes up frequently, his night sleep should be recovered and then he should switch to daytime sleep. After regulating your baby, the aim should be to help him dive independently by withdrawing the support you gave him at the moment of full diving, day by day.

Remember, it is very important where you set your goal when regulating your baby's sleep. The targeted sleep should not be for the baby not to wake up throughout the night, but for the baby to get quality and healthy sleep for its growth and development.
