Coronavirus and What It Feels Like

In the last three months!

The Corona virus, which entered China's agenda as of December, has spread all over the world in a gradual and difficult to understand manner. While we were following the developments outside our country, we entered this pandemic about ten days ago. Considering what other countries experienced, very urgent precautionary plans were launched within a week. Now, within the framework of these measures, each of us is trying to support the process without going out unless necessary. We especially want passengers who are performing Umrah and coming from abroad to pay more attention to their precaution plans.

Previous epidemics (SARS, MERS, Bird flu, Swine flu...) were not heard of this much because they did not spread as much as the corona, but the Corona virus has been greatly affected. we heard. Sometimes I think we're in the middle of a social experiment. If we were to go into the reasons for this situation we are facing these days, we could come up with incredible scenarios. But this is not our goal, at least for now.

Social media has become the best friend of those of us who mostly follow the process at home. With the explanation of one expert, our anxiety level increases, and with the explanation of another expert, we take a breather. We want to be informed about the developments regarding the virus moment by moment and we are waiting for someone to say that a solution has now been found.

Since the schools were closed, first resources on how to explain the virus to children, and then games and activities on how to spend time at home were shared on social media accounts. My dear colleagues, especially psychologists, shared post after post to reduce people's anxiety levels. Well-known figures wanted to increase the level of awareness by trying to set an example with the "stay at home" label. While all these were happening one after another, I kept thinking about where we are in the science fiction movies that we have been shown for years.

While my thoughts are floating around that the virus, which has spread to this extent all over the world as if a button was pressed, did not appear by chance; The anxious and fearful inner voices inside me, wondering how we will reach the light at the end of the tunnel, made me tired! It took me about four days to hear and analyze these sounds. These were times when our coping mechanisms had to kick in. This feeling was not the fear of death. I was sure of it. Many factors made me very worried, such as the fact that my parents who were with me at home were in the risk group and that I might be carrying this virus and that they might be affected. I may have been a psychologist, but like all other people, I had inner voices.

Why do I feel the need to tell these? There is an incredible amount of information traffic circulating on social media. Following statements such as so many cases in this country every day, so many deaths in one day... triggers the level of anxiety greatly. And this is seriously difficult for many people, including me, to deal with. On the other hand, we encounter people who have not yet understood the seriousness of this process we are going through. I hope they can realize that they need to protect both themselves and their environment without going through very painful experiences. At least that's what I wish for.

We can ask ourselves this question: What am I thinking? How do I feel?

Everyone can describe the name of what we are experiencing in their own way. But I believe that these experiences will cause us to think deeply about our existence. Our anxiety level will increase and decrease from time to time, let's be prepared for this. It might be a good time to find our own coping resources. These days will be very valuable for us to realize many things. Within the framework of the information flow we follow on social media; Our facial expressions, emotions and thoughts will be constantly affected. Therefore, let's be careful about our relationship with social media. Let's not forget that there are people who want to use the negative power of the media and they can be much more dangerous than the virus. Let's feel the blessing of being safe and healthy at home by just following the official statements.

Soldiers, Police and Healthcare workers... Professionals whose first leaves were canceled in extraordinary situations in the country and had to work overtime. The only thing we can do for them is to pray that they can reach their homes and families healthy and safe. There is no problem that does not go away. Of course, we know it will pass.

These are good days to understand ourselves, our emotions and our coping mechanisms.

“Even if you know that the apocalypse will come, continue to plant the saplings you are planting.” If we have the belief and hope that says "do it"; We believe that even better days will come soon when we can hug our loved ones big.
