Free Birds

The father of the little girl was a prisoner in a prison where the heaviest political penalties were given in a country where freedoms were limited. He used to go to prison with his mother every weekend to visit his father.

During one visit, he carefully painted a picture to give to his father and took it with him. However, during the control, the picture he painted was not found to be appropriate according to the prison rules. Because they thought that the birds he painted represented freedom. There was no room for ideas like freedom in prison. Thereupon, they tore up the little girl's picture on the spot. She very sadly told her father in the meeting that she was painting but they did not allow it. Her father said:

– Don't worry, girl, you can paint another picture. This time, pay attention to what you draw in your picture, okay?

The little girl painted a new picture and took it to her father on his next visit. This time there were no birds in the picture. She had drawn a tree and tiny black spots on it. This time they gave permission. His father looked at the picture with pleasure and asked:

– Hmmm! What a beautiful tree you drew! What are the spots on the tree? Are these apples?

The little girl bowed to her father and said quietly:

– Hush! Those spots are not apples, they are the eyes of the birds hiding in the tree!..

Sometimes a text or a picture does not tell a single thing, a line or a line has dozens of meanings, just like in this beautiful story. We all find different meanings in that one line because the experiences each of us brings from the past to the present are different from each other. Although each of us has had different experiences, do you realize how similar our reactions to events, our expressions of emotions, and even our dreams are when we leave childhood and step into adulthood? However, are children like this? Each of them is a truly free bird, there are no limits in their imagination, each of them is a dough ready to become very delicious cookies...

The imagination of these worlds emerge from the early relationship of the mother and the baby. Healthy bonding between babies supports creativity. Babies' awareness of their environment develops thanks to their senses. Everything he could get his hands on in the early days The child, who tries to explore the surroundings by putting things in his mouth, begins to notice the surroundings by touch with the development of his muscle skills. As the child grows older, his ability to imitate develops, and he begins to imitate what is happening around him and to create his own world. Imagination develops rapidly. A child with a wide imagination is more sensitive and curious about his environment. There is creativity wherever there is curiosity, because curiosity enables learning and learning enables new discoveries. It cannot be expected that the inner world of children who are frequently prevented by their parents during their games and activities will be enriched.

In order for creativity to develop, it is necessary to allow children to express and explore their ideas. In the past weeks, we tried to find different familiar objects by touching and smelling each other with our eyes closed to develop their imaginations. This week, we drew a small horizontal line in the middle of our drawing papers to see their imaginations and each of us created a different world from that line.

Small suggestions that you can do at home while thanking my children and you;

When you read illustrated story books, you can give them the opportunity to create their own stories according to their imagination by looking at the pictures.

Create your own story. Tell the beginning of the story and you can support your child to continue the story.

Drawing also helps enrich the imagination of children of this age. While children are drawing, it is very important for their creativity to develop that you, as a parent, do not put restrictions on them or constantly tell them how they should do it. Using different colors and painting styles also supports the child's creativity. If your child only wants to use part of the paper while painting, do not interfere with how he should do it. Just the fact that he's doing this much may have a special meaning for him. You should respect the child's decision and the way he expresses himself.

Especially for 3-4 year old children, playing with dough and thus creating the objects of their dreams (I am not talking about working with molds) has an effect on the child gaining creative skills while having fun.
Games such as puzzles should be offered. Mud, paint, chalk and play dough, cubes of different sizes and colors, water, sand and paints create creative play activities.

 Support the development of your child's creativity by showing him that a problem can have more than one solution when he has a problem to overcome. Do not be critical of his activities and what they produce as a result, even if they are not as required, but respect what he does.
