Couple/Marriage Therapy

Some problems may arise from time to time in many relationships between marriages and couples who are not yet married.
These can sometimes be resolved between the spouses themselves or with the help of a reliable, experienced friend or close family member whom the parties perceive as an authority. In some
cases, the problems become more comprehensive and/or cannot be solved and become chronic, and there is a need to get help from an expert.

In cases where the problem related to the content of the relationship is more prominent than the problems related to one of the spouses, or
or in cases where the couple's request is in this direction, interviews are continued as a couple and couple/marriage therapy
is applied.

In applications, spouses may not be equally motivated to get help. In fact, applications are not rare
because only one of the couples or more of the other members of the family (mothers and fathers, children, siblings, etc.) request it. This lack of motivation is one of the biggest obstacles to solving the couple's problems.
One of the primary goals of the couple therapist is to eliminate this motivational weakness in one or both spouses.
The first studies on marriage therapy started in the 19th century. . Over time, various approaches and schools such as psychodynamic and insight
oriented, structuralist, cognitive-behavioral, systemic-strategic, educational
have begun to be used. Regardless of the method used, marriage/couple therapy
has certain purposes.

• Resolving marital conflicts
• Ensuring that the emotional needs of the spouses are perceived and satisfied. Addressing and trying to fix mental symptoms and functional disorders within the relationship
• Ensuring that communication skills are increased
• Identifying the behaviors that spouses can use to solve the problem and putting their skills into practice • Increasing problem-solving skills in the face of challenging life events such as traumatic events, physical or psychological problems encountered by the spouses

Problems in marriage/couple therapy are discussed after hearing from each couple separately. An agreed problem
ranking is made and these problems are discussed with the couple in order of priority. In the days between
meetings, the couple may be given some exercises to practice.
