So what is this disease?
Eptein- It is a viral disease caused by Barr virus (EBV)and less commonly Cytomegalovirus (CMV).
It can be seen at any age.
- Weakness,
- Sore throat,
- Headache,
- 38-39 degree fever and neck pain,
- It starts with swelling in the lymph nodes in the groin or armpits
.
Most patients recover from this disease in a mild manner without even needing to consult a physician. Rash all over the body, liver and spleen enlargement, which we call hepatosplenomegaly, meningitis and affecting many organs, and persistent fever that does not subside for days may rarely develop in this disease. The diagnosis is made with clinical findings after physical examination and supported by examinations. Since it is a viral infection, antibiotics are ineffective, bed rest and supportive treatment are applied. It may take two to three weeks for the disease to fully heal. In some patients, it can rarely become chronic and cause more serious or even fatal conditions.
How can we be protected?
- Especially in public places such as nurseries and schools The use of cups, towels, forks and spoons in common areas should be prevented.
- Nobody should be prevented from smacking and kissing our children.
- Our children should be taught simple hygiene rules.
- Hands should be washed frequently.
