FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT ACNE

What is acne?
Acne is the most common skin disease. It usually occurs in young people. Acne is seen in 80% of people between the ages of 11-30.
How does acne appear?
Acne occurs on the face, neck, chest and back. The sebaceous glands located in the skin in these areas sometimes block the hair follicles, paving the way for acne. Bacteria multiply in clogged pores and cause red, swollen acne. Sometimes only pores clogged with oil appear. These appear as white comedoes and black dots. On the contrary, deep, large-scale, dark-colored acne lesions that last for months may occur, filling with excessive inflammation and forming a cyst structure.
What causes acne?
Our genetic structure, hormonal changes, stress and Oily cosmetic products are the main causes. Some foods also cause acne. Since their carbohydrate and fat load is high, excessive consumption of foods such as fried foods, nuts, chips, chocolate, whole milk and cola may lead to a sudden increase in acne within 1-2 days. Contrary to popular belief, it has nothing to do with liver diseases. However, sometimes it can be the first symptom of ovarian cysts (polycytic ovarian disease) and hormonal diseases (androgen hormone excess).
What do we expect from acne treatment?
To cure existing acne and prevent new ones. , to prevent scars and to treat scars if there are any.
Some practical points about acne:
1-Should I wash my face too often? No, the face should be washed 1-2 times a day with a cleanser suitable for combination-oily skin. If the face is washed more often or shampoo is used on the face, the face dries out and becomes prone to irritation.
2-Can I apply sunscreen and moisturizer? Yes, you can easily use the products of brands that say oil-free, oil-free, and non-comedogenic, depending on your skin type. Using these products will also make it easier for you to adapt to medication if you are given it.
3-Can I wear make-up? Yes. Thick, overly oily foundations will of course increase acne. Mineral-based powders and foundations sold in pharmacies can be used.
4-Should acne be squeezed? No. Squeezing acne at home It can cause the spread of microbes, brown spots or pit marks that remain for months.
5-Are there any powder, tonic or cream formulas that I can prepare at home? No. Although such formulas circulate in the media from time to time, they should not be relied upon. With these types of formulas, let alone healing, acne may worsen, allergies may occur, and infection may occur. Another important point is that not every red and swelling is acne. Some diseases such as ingrown hairs, boils, rosacea and warts can create a similar appearance. For this reason, we should not attempt treatment on our own.
6-I go to beauty centers every month, why does my acne never end? Even if the skin is cleansed, acne will definitely recur without long-term treatments. Remember, acne is a skin disease.
7-Should I stop taking the medication if I do not see any benefit in a week? Healing of acne begins within weeks. The treatment given by the dermatologist should be continued with determination, and a result should be expected after a few weeks.
8-What happens if acne is not treated? It has been shown in many studies that acne causes social phobia, decreased self-confidence, decreased quality of life and leads to a tendency to excessive amounts of make-up in women. Untreated acne also causes scar and blemish problems.
The safest way to deal with acne is to be examined by your dermatologist. In this way, appropriate facial cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen are determined according to our findings in the examination. We use topical acne medications or pills. We recommend masks or peeling for some of our patients. Skin care is also a good start to clean blackheads and oil-filled pores. We mainly receive support from PRP (platelet rich plasma) applications for people who have overcome acne but still have scars.
Do not be hopeless for acne and scars at all ages and levels, get examined.
