FOREHEAD LIFT AESTHETIC SURGERY
The focal point of facial expression is the eyes and eyebrows. The first area considered for surgical intervention in order to rejuvenate and beautify the upper part of the face is usually the eyelids. If the eyebrows and forehead area are aesthetically problematic, contrary to expectations, eyelid surgery will give the patient a tired expression. If there is sagging in the forehead area, when the forehead skin is stretched and the eyebrows are lifted up, the upper eyelid skin abundance is largely eliminated. Most of the time, there is no need for upper eyelid surgery.
With aging, the forehead skin begins to loosen and sag as the facial skin does, and the existing lines deepen. Over time, the eyebrows descend downwards and a tired and sad facial expression appears. Poor nutrition, smoking, irregular lifestyle, stress, air pollution, the effect of gravity and facial expressions facilitate this aesthetically disturbing result. Sometimes in young patients, even if there are no deep wrinkles in the forehead area, the forehead skin may be structurally sagging and the eyebrows may droop downwards.
This surgery is generally performed on male and female patients over the age of 40 who have no other health problems. It may also be recommended for correction of structural deformations in young patients. With forehead lift surgery, the lines on the forehead are minimized. The eyebrows that are drooping over the eyes are lifted and brought to where they should be, giving the person a lively look, and at the same time, some of the lines next to the eyes can be eliminated to some extent. If there is excessive sagging and skin removal is necessary, the classical open forehead lift method is applied. In the classical method, 4-5 cm below the hairline. A crown-like scar remains behind, but this scar is hidden in the scalp.
However, when this method is applied, there may be a temporary loss of sensation in the scalp that lasts for 3-4 months. Eyebrow lift surgery, which is performed to restore the eyebrows to their normal positions, is a surgery intertwined with forehead lift surgery. Also, there is no need for eyebrow lift surgery.
I apply my own technique in forehead lift, which has entered the world literature. This technique can be translated as the 'two-planned forehead lift' method. It is recommended to obtain long-lasting and permanent results.
It is not a preferred method to lift the eyebrows and partially tighten the forehead by entering only from the temple area. Although this method seems simple, it is not effective enough and may result in recurrence in a very short time. Endoscopic method may be recommended for very young patients for forehead lift. In this method, the scars on the scalp will be less, but the effectiveness and permanence of the method are discussed. It is not effective enough in removing excess skin. Today
More than half of American plastic surgeons have returned to the classical open forehead lift method. Effective and long-lasting results are achieved in experienced hands.
SURGERY
The surgery is performed in the operating room under hospital conditions, under the supervision of an anesthesiologist. It is recommended to perform it under general anesthesia. It takes about 1.5 hours. Since the surgery is performed through opened skin, scars can be easily hidden from the first day. If necessary, it can be performed simultaneously with other plastic surgeries. It is often added to face lift surgery.
AFTER THE SURGERY
The early post-operative period is usually comfortable. There may be general swelling and bruising on the forehead and around the eyes. There may be drowsiness and a feeling of tension. These will go away on their own within 2 weeks. A head wrap can be applied to leave the eyes, nose and mouth open. The dressings are left on for 3-4 days and the patient is allowed to wash his hair. Excessive exertion and hot blow drying are not recommended for up to 3 weeks as they may increase edema. The stitches are removed after 7-8 days.
The surgery gives good results. In rare cases, touch-up may be necessary. The person can apply make-up from the first days and return to work after 10 days. It is recommended to avoid heavy exercises and sun exposure and to protect from external impacts. Since the newly given shape to the forehead and eyebrows will be affected by gravity, it will last sometimes for 8-10 years and sometimes for a lifetime, depending on the person's constitution.
