We definitely do not recommend the use of cow's milk to our patients until the age of 2-3. The reasons are as follows:
1- Cow's milk is the most common allergenic food, regardless of your race, language or religion. 50-70% of food allergies worldwide are caused by cow's milk and cow's milk proteins. Especially the proteins called casein and B-Lactoglobulin in cow's milk are proteins with a very high potential to cause allergies. Cow's milk can cause serious allergic reactions caused by type-1 (anaphylactic type) IgE, as well as causing many allergic disorders through other types of allergic mechanisms. Eosinophilic Proctocolitis is a common cow's milk protein allergy disease that results in bloody, green and foamy stools with mucus, especially those formed by cow's milk proteins, and all tests are normal.
2-Cow's milk is a very large molecule. Due to its large molecular structure and density, it damages the velvety absorption hairs on the inner surface of the intestines. As a result of its continuous consumption, it causes blood loss in the form of occult bleeding and leakage from the intestines. In addition, the absorption of iron in its structure is poor. With these two features, it is the most common cause of iron deficiency anemia in children.
3- Cow's milk increases both kidney solute (salt/mineral/protein) load due to its high allergen and indigestible high protein and mineral content.
4- Excess saturated fatty acids in cow's milk reduce calcium absorption, and since it also contains high amounts of phosphorus, the calcium/phosphorus ratio is close to 1, creating a risk of Rickets. (This ratio is 2/1 in green vegetables and breast milk)
5- Cow's milk is poor in essential fatty acids (which cannot be produced in the body and must be taken from outside), and the child's brain and nerve development is negatively affected. p>
6- Iodine, Zinc, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin D and Copper rates in cow's milk are low, phosphorus and sodium rates are high.
In addition, it does not trigger constipation, lactose intolerance and asthma-like diseases that we cannot count. Due to other disadvantages such as, we recommend that children under the age of 3 should never drink cow's milk, and that children between the ages of 3-7 should be given cow's milk not exceeding 250 ml per day. We recommend giving dairy products such as yoghurt, cheese and ayran instead of milk to meet the child's calcium needs.
