Bunion is a disease that occurs in the joint between the 1st metatarsal bone of the thumb and the phalanx bones.


 

Clinical and Examination

The finger with bunion is usually large and tends to expand inwards and swell. The skin is red and soft. It may be painful with wearing shoes. In the presence of larger bunions, walking and climbing stairs can be very painful. The 1st finger tends to be angulated and directed above or below the 1st finger.
In this case, the skin at the top of the bunion may become thin and sensitive.


Bending 1. The pressure of the finger on the second finger may cause second finger deformities. If the bunion is very serious, walking and wearing shoes may become difficult. If this process is not treated in the early period and becomes chronic, irreversible calcification may occur in the joint.

Treatment

Many bunions can be treated without surgery if they occur early. Precaution is always best. Choosing appropriate shoes is very important. Shoes that suit your foot shape should be chosen. Soft-soled, wide and slightly high-heeled shoes should be worn. You should avoid shoes with heels more than 5 cm, narrow pointed toes and tight shoes. You can get help on this matter. If you have a bunion, you can use a protective pad to soften the area.

Despite all this, if you have pain that does not go away with walking and does not respond to medication and orthopedic orthoses, surgery may be required. surgical procedure on the toe Bones, ligaments and tendons are corrected.

Bunionette
